DIY 4 site hydroponic system for full size plants

in #hydroponics6 years ago

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share this hydro system I built a while back.. Its similar to a lot of popular systems right now, with a few upgrades of course;)

The system connects (5) 5 gallon buckets using one for a reservoir while recirculating the nutrient solution with aeration. A 4 outlet air pump is used to run air stones to each site which provides oxygen to the solution and root zone keeping plants healthy and happy=)

A submersible water pump provides nutrients through a drip halo in each site. Gravity drains the solution back into the reservoir through drainage tubes.

These are great for any larger size single site plant like tomatoes or other vegetables. The roots grow through the clay medium and hang out in the aerated nutrient solution. This can be considered a deep water culture system or DWC, with recirculation. The constantly moving solution helps with salt buildup over time, which eliminates potential toxicity from those types of hydro systems.

You can easily build one of these yourself if you are handy, I'm happy to answer any questions. We also sell these at our store with a small markup for the labor.

Hope you enjoy the post and good luck, happy growing!

Keep up with the great work :) and thanks for sharing!

thanks very much @carpedimus for sharing and for the positive feedback😸👍

Awesome setup my friend!

Been thinking to build something similar just a few days ago.

A quick question, are you using both a air pump and a water pump?

Thanks

Hey thanks @carpedimus=) yes this system uses both air and water pump, though I have been considering redesigning it lately. I am thinking about incorporating Venturi aeration in with the submersible pump and getting rid of the air pump... or maybe use an air lift with the halos and get rid of the submersible🤔

any thoughts?

Nice @guanyu any pictures with plants in? Thanks for sharing

Thanks dan=) I actually never took pictures when I had this system in full swing, but hoping to transplant some soon. I'll definitely post updates though👍

Brilliant ill keep my eye out for them 😬
