DAV is Decentralizing Transportation

in #ico6 years ago

The wheel was invented over 5,000 years ago.
This simple invention sowed the notion that man and objects could be carried by mechanisms, giving birth to "transportation."

The discovery of the wheel is long past and today the transportation industry utilizes many, many channels and vehicles and many more are on the way. It is one of the most important and largest industries in the world, and rightfully so. Due to the sheer size of the industry, there's lots of potential to derive value from economies of scale; consequently, this industry has become concentrated with large, centralized corporations.

Conventional economics asserts that if an industry is wide enough to support massive corporations, the achieved economies of scale bring the market to optimal efficiency. However, this belief has stemmed off the understanding that only a centralized entity can allow efficient and proper functioning operation. While this was true just a few years ago, blockchain technology has changed that. Now, decentralized networks can be developed with enough measures in place to ensure proper functioning.

Decentralizing Transportation

Since blockchain now allows the ability to make successful and secure decentralized networks a reality, the once-considered efficient centralized corporations are no longer the golden standard.

Almost everyone has some asset or skill that can add value to the transportation industry, however, this value isn't realized since not everyone can or wants to become an employee of a transportation company.

A new blockchain project, DAV, is developing a decentralized transportation network that will engulf every aspect of the transportation industry. DAV is based on the incorporation of both individuals and objects that relate to the transportation industry into a transportation economy revolving around DAV tokens.

People

People can play a part in DAV's network in many ways.

  • Developers can enhance the open-source network and improve its functionality and scope.

  • People can provide services on the network. Vehicles need maintenance, enhancement, and even a driver; skills requiring such a level of dexterity are and continue to be in the hands of people. DAV allows people to utilize their skills and talents related to all things transportation in an open environment.

  • People can add value to DAV's network by contributing assets. Anything from parking spots to actual vehicles could deliver a mutual benefit for the overall network and individual contributors.

DAV removes the issue with centralized companies in the transportation industry. Everyone can add some value to the overall transportation network, but isn't able to. Since DAV is putting the entire transportation grid on a decentralized network, the world can capitalize on every bit of value any single individual can provide.

Objects

DAV will involve heavy utility of autonomous vehicles and that gives great value to objects on this network.

Autonomous drones and self-driving cars are the next technological frontier in transportation technology. DAV provides the foundation to connect the vehicles of tomorrow in the most efficient transport economy possible. DAV's team intends to allow autonomous vehicles to discover other AVs and people within the DAV network. This paves the way for immediate need fulfillment.

Wrap-Up: DAV is an ambitious project that decentralizes the entire transportation industry and allows anyone to add value to it. This project has the potential to make the most efficient transportation economy ever possible.

I personally I don't agree with it. And I pray it doesn't happen. Many people will be cut off and a lot of unemployment will be created more so tp the taxi drivers, people who work in the parking rots and many more who aren't well associated with technology. Just know in this world, though technology has technically filled half of this generation but their are those people who aren't well embracers of the thing. So I suppose we live each for everyone. DAV will be for a few not the majority.

Technological advancement usuly elevates the job requirement rather than nullify it. If a system like DAV makes it into the market, new jobs will be created to sustain the system.

Think about it, the horse buggy used to employ many industries that are now obsolete. AVs will have the same impact: old industies will be replaced with new ones. But yes, DAV won't break into the entire transport market.

I feel developed nations like USA, Japan, etc will soon start using autonomous transportation. They have been testing it, and they have a suitable infrastructure for it. Autonomous vehicle should be fun, and I am very excited about it.

The one field where we need decentralization is transportation. Large companies have a monopoly on services and facilities, and we are bound to use them. A decentralized transportation service will benefit the common people like us.

And I am positive that most developed country is ready for the DAV but lots of work is needed to be done before it hits global market. Most countries still struggle for normal vehicle and automatic vehicle is out of their reach. It may take time, but one day we will be there.

The US gets a lot of spotlight in the AV market due to the fervorous PR Elon Musk has. Tesla is making great advancements but so are German automotives, especially BMW.

And BMW already has a much more established infrastructure. I won't be surprised if Germany is first to kick in the mass adoption of AVs.

@hatu

I don't think drones will be used anytime soon (not sure what soon is) but not in the next 5 years. Autonomous cars, may be. but it will be limited to initial adopters. I am old school, i still like gear sticks over auto gear systems. and I enjoy driving so autonomous driving is not for me.

from what i know, auto services, auto parts manufacturers are already quite decentralized, ownership isn't. the market is quite fragmented. fragmentation means, most benefits of decentralization are already there.

DAV has to compete with centralized companies manufacturing at a given cost curve so profiting is difficult. also based on point 2, don't think the world is ready for DAV yet.

P.S. I posted this on some other post.

I live close to a port and, trust me, drones are already in extensive usage there. They aren't lifting containers by themselves (yet), but they help monitor the safety of workers and track daily metrics.

I actually did not even consider the fact that DAV could decentralize even automotive manufacturing. My consideration had been more towards cutting out the corporate presence in service stations and transport.

But wow, you are onto a good point. It could play a role in manufacturing too, but yes, the impact would likely be negligible or difficult to realize.

I dont know why but i somehow confused transportation with drones carrying humans - as drone cabs, and not drones used in logistics. You're right about delivery using drones though. I think everyone has seen videos of amazon's drones delivering products (not sure if its only testing mode or being run in select areas or cities)

Drones are playing a growing role in logistics and beyond that even. Many of the farms in Netherlands monitor the crops using drones. Keep in mind that despite the Netherlands being a tiny country by both land size and population, its the second largest food exports in the world.

Autonomous drones are playing a growing role in many industries.

Good to know all that now. Thanks for sharing the insight.

yea, I think the world will soon start using autonomous cars because looking at technologies that are coming up e.g Basis Neuro which allows the user to control devices just by thought. It'll be exciting because a lot of work will be done automatically reducing stress. I think it'll be great.

I will have to look at Basis Neuro with detail; thanks for introducing me to it.

But yes, I feel the day autonomous vehicles hit our roads is around the corner.

you're welcome

I don't think an average person will benefit from decentralized transportation services because the blockchain isn't stable.

We can only reach stability with wide-spread adoption. That's sadly going to take some time.

I don't think the world is ever ready for anything new but gradual introduction of DAV will bring familiarity. Blockchain technology didn't get this complex in a day but gradual update and improvement.

You make a valid point. A sudden rise of DAV is highly unlikely. It'd be parallel to the rate of adoption of AVs.

I dont think the world is ready por driverless cars. Especially in countries of South America, Mexico DF, India where transit is almost impossible for human minds even less for AI. It will require too much artificial intelligence to consider in seconds the best result before crashing or running over a person before an animal, in the worst case scenario.

DAV, for what I read gives me the impression that It is an Uber without the Uber, that is, without the intermediary. It is a very interesting project to bring blockchain technology to the world of transportation, either for transporting loads, shipping, or simply bring a person from one site to another. From this point of view, it can be used for many activities and businesses of transportation.

The idea behind DAV is that it provides the technology to decentralize exchange of any transport service. The biggest use case would be, as you said, to make a decentralized Uber. And yes, it'll be interesting to see how it folds.

Haha I like how you describe the difficulty of driving in some countries in such an eloquent way.
