Social Media Giants Ban Crypto Ads Leaving an Entire Industry in the Lurch

I've been in the crypto industry since June of 2017 and on every single day since then I've been increasingly aware of the forces against mainstream adoption of decentralized currencies.

So it's no surprise to learn that Twitter, following Facebook and Google, has banned all ads relating to ICOs, cryptos and blockchain - a seemingly united move made by big players in an effort to delegitimize an entire industry.

Of course, everyone in this the realm of cryptocurrencies has seen the level of scammery that has wedged itself into these unregulated waters. But to eliminate three of the most prominent marketing tools to suffocate the entire industry is in my mind, far beyond an appropriate reaction.

I don't think one single person in this industry is immune to scams - we have all at least witnessed if not been victim to at least one (if not dozens or even hundreds!). Then there are the unknown numbers of scammers that, as regulation takes hold, will peter out. In the meantime, people like myself, my teammates and hundreds of fellow crypto heads I've connected with over the last year or so are left to scramble at a time when we ourselves are developing our own crypto related businesses.

And scramble we will. That's the interesting part about being involved in decentralized technologies. You won't find a more adaptable bunch of entrepreneurial types. We will create and build new marketing tools that completely shun the big three, and take our money to decentralized entities (like Steemit!).

I do have to wonder what the thinking is behind this ban and I have to conclude it happened because of one or more of the following reasons:

They needed time to establish their own decentralized platforms and found that, since they 100% own and control all the content, hey why the heck not? Slowing down fearsome competitors is really not that bad of an idea if you have the power.

They were uneducated enough to believe the FUD surrounding crypto - it won't last, dead in the water, bubble talk.

They honestly feared for the safety of their users.

The third one is bit hard to swallow I must admit. But I love to look behind things and try to find out why they happened - what brought it on? What other controlling forces were involved? Where did they get their data to make such a broadly damaging decision?

What are your thoughts? I would love to hear about why you think they banned crypto, so drop a comment. Then let's figure out ways to smash marketing without these antiqued, centralized data giants.

Sort:

To be fair The reason wasn’t a conspiracy
It was threats of being taken to court over things like bitconnect and other Scam ICO projects

Who was threatening them?

Customers who got scammed by bitconnect

they really think they can stop it? :p

Maybe they are just covering their butts, but do you see Facebook or the others banning any other entire industries with many dedicated and legitimate business people involved?
