RE: The Producer's Toolbox - Why do ''pop'' songs sound so full? - Some production analysis.

in #imusify6 years ago (edited)

Thank you for this article, so Complete and full of information! I also think the time that a producer or musicians spend on a track is important, for example a track that created in one day or one week or 1 month, in one month they can spend time on each second to add many details, while the shorter production time wont have enough time to spend on very small details.
I remembered a track of Beatles they panned bass and drums, I didn't knew that they still do this in new productions. I also heard this Paramore's track years ago and I didn't focused on it this way, really thank you for giving us these details of each part of the track.
peace :)

Thank you @davidfar .. I'm glad you found this post useful! .. yes.. time is important.. but it can also be subjective.. it all depends if a flow is established... I can cite a Nile Rodgers example of how he produced David Bowie's whole Let's Dance album in like 19 days.. from scratch! .. so.. I guess there is no rule.. but of course.. the more analysis you could get better thought ideas. And always be careful not to ''overproduce'' .. common mistake in more inexperienced producers.. as the added layers actually distract you from the key and important elements.. the line is quite thin :P

Oh.. here.. I found the interview of Nile Rodgers here , some good info here:

Thank you so much, your post was really great and useful, Nile Rodgers is awesome :D To get Lucky riff, I loved that one :))) , I agree with you, I had much of mistakes from past till now, which I also learned things after years and I still learn, its actually like an ocean to me, when every time I do a new mix or layering some tracks (depends on time I spend) when its a short time production I let it be with less layers, but when its longer production I add many stuffs. thank you for the video :D it was really great.

@pechichemena , I wanted to ask you to do an analyze for these two tracks, I really liked the newer version while the original is always the important one as its the origin of the song.
but I love all the effects and sounds and mix in the newer version and its sounds much Cinematic. I wanted to know your idea about it too.

genre is changed in the newer track, for example second one became a soundtrack which its mostly used on games and movies.

Tears For Fears - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" (orignal)

Lorde - Everybody Wants to Rule the World

I couldn't find out who created this newer one even when I searched much

Oooh.. I love Tears for fears... actually Lorde has a very cinematic style to all of her productions.. like dark... and moody... actually her productions are top notch.. There is a very good game on how to play with expectations and buildups and cinematic elements.. I would have to sit and listen to it.. many many times to pick all the elements.. but.. I can assure you there is a MASSIVE amount of elements coming in an out...

On the Tears for Fears version.. it is actually a reference for production.. as those guys are pioneers on many many elements and synth sounds.. so studying the original one is a GREAT idea.. and you know what is cool on that one .. The Multi track is online!

If you check it out you will find some nice surprises .. trust me ;)

Thank you so much, I was checking the stems, sometimes I use Acapella of a singer to produce a new remix like this one :
https://soundcloud.com/davood-faramarzii/mariana-and-diamonds-froot-remix-by-davood-faramarzi-davidfar
but this was a short time production like only 2 days, I sometimes like to add new notes and even different chords to the song. for example adding a middle part which is separated.
sorry I didn't mean to advertise my work here :D,

I liked both versions , 90's music is always the best, I love most of the bands from back then.

I think Lorde couldn't made that song's cover good, if there was not that production behind it :D , but its became good and in my idea I can say that music production is really great.
