The Mouse maiden

Dear steemians!
I am going to tell you an Indian folk story that I enjoyed in my childhood, hope you like it.

There was a magician living with his wife in the town, they were unhappy that they don't have any child. One day, when the magician walking along the way of river bank, a mouse fell down from a tree in to his coat pocket. The magician thought that the God might have sent this mouse to him. He thought that people would laugh at him if he would take the mouse to his home. So he decided to change the mouse into a girl by his magic power.

The Magician brought the girl to his home. On seeing the Girl, the magician’s wife surprised and asked, “Who is she? From where did you bring this girl?”

The magician told her the whole story and said, “I would bring her back to mouse form”. The magician’s wife said, “No, Please don’t change her into a mouse." she stopped him instantly and proceeded.

"God must have sent her to us, since we don't have any child, we adopt this girl as our child, You have given her life so you have become her father and I am her mother.”

The Magician agreed his wife. They started raising up the Girl as their own daughter. Soon the Girl grew into a beautiful maiden. By the age of eighteen, the magician's wife decided to get her daughter married. She asked her husband to find a suitable groom for their daughter.

The Magician liked the idea and thought that the Sun God would make the best match for their daughter. The wife agreed upon this and the magician prayed to the Sun God to appear. When the Sun God appeared, the magician asked him to marry his daughter.

But the Girl refused the idea and said, “Sorry! I can’t marry the Sun God as he is burning hot. I will be reduced to ashes in his warmth and light”. The magician got disappointed to hear this from the Girl.

The magician thought, “The Clouds God could make a good match for her, as he is not hot like the Sun God, and her daughter will definitely like him”.

The magician then prayed to the Cloud God to appear and asked him to marry his daughter. But the Girl once again refused and said, "I don’t want to marry a Cloud, as I am afraid the thunder". The magician disappointed once again.
