विवाह पुरूष की सम्पूर्णता का प्रतीक संस्कार है। पत्नी को ‘अद्धगिनी' के रूप में पाकर वह पूर्ण पुरूष बनता है । तभी वह एक सामाजिक परिवर्तनकारी प्रक्रिया का अपने परिवार में कर्ता बन जाता है। किशोर वय की समाप्ति के साथ ही साथ युवक युवती जीवन व्यवहार, भोजन तथा अन्य विचारों के लिए मातापिता पर आश्रित रहने वाले अनुत्तरदायी, युवक युवती नहीं रह जाते हैं। उनके मन में जीवन को अपनी तरह से जीने की गम्भीरता प्रकट होती है। एक नवीन परिवार बसाने के लिए गृहस्थ जीवन की शुरूआत करने के लिए वे तत्पर होते हैं।
उन्हें देवों, पितरों तथा विश्व के अन्य प्राणियों के प्रति
अपना ऋण चुकाना होता है। इस दृष्टि से हिन्दू संस्कृति
में विवाह मौज मस्ती का नहीं दायित्वों और चिन्ताओं
के समाधान के लिए आगे आकर जुट जाने का संस्कार
है। पाश्चात्य सभ्यता और कामुकता की आंधी में
बहकर हमने इसे विकृत कर डाला है। आवश्यक है।
कि हम विवाह संस्कार की गरिमा को वैयक्तिक स्तर
पर बनाए रखने का पूरा-पूरा प्रयत्न अपनी तरफ से
करें।
आज जबकि औद्योगिक एवं तकनीक प्रगति के
दौर में संयुक्त परिवार प्रणाली पर लगातार प्रहार हो
रहा है तब वैवाहिक परिवेश और उसके माध्यम से सामाजिक सन्तुलन कायम रखने के प्रश्न पर हमें गम्भीरता से विचार करना ही चाहिए।

दो होते हुए भी एक

पति और पत्नी के पारस्परिक सम्बन्धों का महत्व समझने के लिए हमें अपने अतीत में झांकना होगा ।
एक पति पत्नी एक ही डाल पर बैठने वाले दो पंछी हैं। दोनों में ही परस्पर प्रेम और सौहार्द है। दोनों एक दूसरे से सम्बद्ध है। दोनों का आधार जीवन मरण की समस्त समस्याएं भोग्य पदार्थ वृक्ष की एक ही शाखा से प्राप्त होते हैं ।स्त्री पुरूष एक होते हुए भी दो हें और दो होकर भी एक।
प्रकृति के पारस्परिक सम्पर्क से ही इस जगत का निर्माण हुआ और अब तक इस संसार की सत्ता विद्यमान है, तब तक पुरूष और प्रकृति का संयोग भी अवश्यम्भावी है। स्त्री शक्ति है तो पुरूष है शक्तिमान। शक्ति के बिना
शक्त्मिान की सत्ता शून्य है और शक्तिमान के बिना शक्ति का कोई आधार स्थान ही नहीं रहता है। वैवाहिक सम्बन्धों के बाद पति-पत्नी का सम्बन्ध सर्वाधिक घनिष्ठ बन जाता है।
वे दोनों मिलकर परिवार का मूल बनते हैं। एक सिक्के
के दो पहलुओं की तरह ही वे अभिन्न बनकर जीवन
प्रवाह को गतिशील करते हैं।
ऋग्वेदीय मंत्र दृष्टा ऋषि ने पति और पत्नी को
आशीर्वाद देते हुए चकवा चकवी की तरह प्रेम का
उपदेश दिया था:- ‘तुम दोनों पति-पत्नी आयुपर्यन्त
विवाह के बन्धन में बंधे रहो, कभी एक दूसरे को मत
छोड़ो! सारी आयु परस्पर साथ रहो जैसे चक्रवाक
दम्पत्ति रहते हैं।’’ यही एक दूसरे के लिए समर्पण
भाव दाम्पत्य जीवन की बेल को सदैव लहलहाता
रखेगा इसमें जरा भी अव्युक्ति की बात नहीं है।
