How To Waste $28 Billion On Animal Experimentation -- And A Real Solution

in #informationwar6 years ago (edited)

As the video explains briefly, animal studies and experimentation are a huge failure considering the animal death toll . One pertinent question comes to mind though: aren't all the drug's harmful side effects linked to the failure of the animal model? How far fetched is this question?

This 2min video explains why animals are NO LONGER necessary for drug testing, and it is MUCH LESS expensive

The problem as Earth Custodians see it, is that when a society is wasteful, everything works in sync toward that same wasteful aftermaths.

  1. The Pet industry is a scam onto itself and generating billions of dollars each year --- and shelters are more overcrowded than ever. So there are plenty of pets that will be sent to these lab testings. Pet industry spending topped US$66 billion in 2016 https://www.petfoodindustry.com/articles/6370-pet-industry-spending-topped-us66-billion-in-2016

There is a lot to say about the Pet Industry, from the professional breeders to subliminal pet marketing , and irresponsible humans, it is a combination that causeS lots of animal suffering. Then we have farm animals which are chosen because they were possibly born frail, not responding well to antibiotics thus weaker, etc...

  1. Bigpharma has countless of lobbies going after taxpayers' money. Here is a good example: As Big Pharma Is Lavished with Subsidies (2016) https://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/05/19/big-pharma-lavished-subsidies-congress-takes-stingy-approach-opioid-epidemic .... Stop Subsidizing Big Pharma (2105) https://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/06/opinion/stop-subsidizing-big-pharma.html

Pharmaceuticals are hiring way too many scientists for either poor or fraudulent results, see the Nature Magazine link at the bottom page.

Indeed one has to wonder how many glyphosate testings have been done on animals... or even experimentation for chemotherapy and radiations , which are more harmful than cancer itself. Or how many tests were done on animals for diabetes, a illness always leading to serious kidney problems... or even the opioid crisis and its new leading killer: fentanyl... how many animals did die so that laboratories could establish the threshold of death? Did it help? We really could go on and on.

  1. The fraud which is the result of a SICK system to start with, a system finding profits more valuable than human lives. Science is no longer what it was 100 years ago, too much money is destroying the real purpose of research and employs way too many scientists who should NOT have a job. So these scientists compete in an environment occulting/preventing any real breakthroughs. Fraud in experimentation is rampant.

What to think of this 14-year-long Gulf of Mexico oil leak one of the worst in US history (October 2018) while car maker are testing gas emission on animals? Anybody really caring to look at the system and its paradoxes, will have to admit that science is seriously losing its edge, and even working against Nature. All the cartels we have allowed to be created are turning against us. Transhumanism being the latest absolute threat.

CONCLUSION: Time to take personal responsibility and undo the cartelization of our planet, that 's the only way we are going to find out what REALLY needs to be done to save Humanity.

More primates are being used for lab research in the US than ever before | November 6, 2018

In 2015, there were 767,622 animals used for medical experiments in the US, the lowest level since the United States Department of Agriculture began keeping records in the early 1970s. That included roughly 138,000 rabbits, 98,000 hamsters, 11,000 sheep, 46,000 pigs; 20,000 cats, 61,000 dogs, 173,000 guinea pigs, 28,000 “other farm animals,” and nearly 62,000 “nonhuman primates.” In 2016, the number of animals used for scientific testing rose to 820,812. Last year, it dipped slightly, to 792,168. Today, according to Pew, 52% of Americans are against animal testing. However, there have never been more nonhuman primates used for lab experiments than there are right now.

Big Pharma Pockets $711 Billion in Profits by Robbing Seniors, Taxpayers

Here’s an outrage that must be changed: Big Pharma has been systematically price-gouging the Medicare program for seniors and people with disabilities — and raking in billions in excessive profits. The 11 largest global drug companies made an astonishing $711 billion in profits over the 10 years ending in 2012, and they got a turbo-charged boost when the Medicare Part D prescription drug program started in 2006, according to an analysis of corporate filings by Health Care for America Now (HCAN). ... https://www.huffingtonpost.com/ethan-rome/big-pharma-pockets-711-bi_b_3034525.html

Failure of Animal Models

The use of animal models as stand-ins for humans can give rise to misleading results because of the intrinsic differences between humans and other species. Human disease and human response to drugs and other chemicals should be studied in human-relevant systems.... Animal testing failures put drug trial volunteers in danger

The reporting of animal studies is biased, inflating the efficacy of drug candidates and pushing them into the clinic before they are ready. This is the verdict of new research, which finds that more treatments go from pre-clinical to human trials than ought to, wasting valuable resources and potentially putting trial participants in danger.... The paper found only 5% of animal studies in the literature had credible positive effects with no hint of bias....

Animals are sometimes used in the testing of drugs, vaccines and other biologics, and medical devices, mainly to determine the safety of the medical product.

For drugs and biologics, the focus of animal testing is on the drug’s nature, chemistry, and effects (pharmacology) and on its potential damage to the body (toxicology). Animal testing is used to measure

+how much of a drug or biologic is absorbed into the blood
+how a medical product is broken down chemically in the body
the toxicity of the product and its breakdown components (metabolites)
+how quickly the product and its metabolites are excreted from the body
+For medical devices, the focus of animal testing is on the device’s ability to function with living tissue without harming the tissue (biocompatibility). Most devices use materials, such as stainless steel or ceramic, that we know are biocompatible with human tissues. In these cases, no animal testing is required. However, some devices with new materials require biocompatibility testing in animals.

There are still many areas where animal testing is necessary and non-animal testing is not yet a scientifically valid and available option. However, FDA has supported efforts to reduce animal testing. In addition, FDA has research and development efforts underway to reduce the need for animal testing and to work toward replacement of animal testing.

When animal testing is done to support applications for medical products regulated by FDA, manufacturers or sponsors are required to follow FDA’s regulation, Good Laboratory Practice for Nonclinical Laboratory Studies (21 CFR Part 58). FDA also supports the use of independent animal care and use committees (IACUC) for laboratory studies involving animals.

Animal testing resulted in saving the lives of hundreds of millions of lives. But Earthcustodians wants to take away any future potential research that could save further uncounted millions of lives because a picture of a puppy with sad eyes.

You have sunk into the abyss of irrationality... :)

today animal testing is NO LONGER NECESSARY... but you didnt bother to watch the 2mIn video nor read any articles... but you speak as if I am making it all up, which is ludicrous. The fact is that you NEVER PAID attention to other news evolving outside your "perception bubble" and now it catching up with you.

BIGPHARMA is a criminal enterprise WASTING 28 BILLIONS OF DOLLARS yearly , get over it. And it surely look as if the "puppy sad eyes" struck a nerve :)'

yep... a $28 billion fraud and counting... keep defending a cartel, you defend them all anyway.

A 2015 analysis concluded that as much as 89 percent of animal studies could not be reproduced, see link above

89% of attempts fail to bring a drug to market. So what?

This is how science works you ding dong. We try an experiment and observe its results. If it fails to produce expected results, we try something else. We learn as much from a bad result as a good one. Most attempts result in failure.

Rinse and repeat until we get a good repeatable result.

Jesus Christ, learn some fucking science.

ANIMAL TESTING no longer necessary, UPDATE your database

$28 billion fraud and useless sufferings for the animals. Follow the money. what is described in this blog is ORGANIZED failure, the conspiracy to defraud.

You claim yourself knowledgeable in science but then you team up with monopolies. if the rate of failure is SO HIGH and for SO LONG, then the model itself must be abandoned. Period.

yeah failure has a price, indeed... Big Pharma Pockets $711 Billion (link above)

WRONG... what you do not seem to understand is that the failure to reproduce lab experiment is the evidence of the fraud. The result good or bad does not matter but the same result. Considering the 89% of experiments that could not be reproduced, REALLY MEANS that MANY ARE LYING for a paycheck. Hence the Nature Mag article about the FRAUD in science... Simple.''

You just won't accept how corrupt the system is.

organs on chip have been available since 2011... but the problem now is what are we going to do with all these scientists that do not need to experiment on animals anymore and justifying subsidies???? I hear a domino falling in the distance...

Failure to reproduce lab results is evidence of a scientist being incorrect for any of a multitude of reasons. These results are tossed out.

Hence the 89% of results not leading to new drugs.

You are in stage 2...
