Yeah, like DARPA would actually care about the poor farmer... it's obvious we're talking about weaponized insects. So many reasons why this is wrong... One question though - if we're talking about insects, how do these geniuses know they will stay in the target area, to alter the crops of another country, that might actually be an ally?
Another thing - in many countries there's been fierce opposition to GMOs, now, if someone was to discreetely release such insects in that country, you get the same result, no headache, no public protests... who's to prove who did what?!

Exactly right!!! I kind of tap-danced around the "ally" issue hoping people would draw just that conclusion... I think it's a bit presumptuous to think the bugs would pick a side in the first place- much less ours!
