Election in Nigeria

Election is the process of choosing the representatives into leadership positions. I further see it as a political term in a democratic state which lay down the procedures of electing leaders.

I might not be old enough to sum up, the electoral procedures of the Nigerian system but as a student of history and being politically involved I can say what we are having here is a selection and involuntary imposition of leaders.

The only free and fair election ever recorded is the June 12, 1993, elections, because according to history the post-colonial election of 1960 is a mere hand over simply because the political involvement of the majority of the citizens was below par. And to even worsen the situation of things the 1993 election was rubbished and nullified by the then military government when their preferred candidate lost.

How politicians manipulate the people

They make promises with a well triggered but unachievable party manifestos, the most infuriating aspect is this, since the inception of the Nigerian independence the politicians promise the same set of things: power supply, road, employment and security, out of all these listed non has been achieved.

Nigeria would have been a paradise on earth if her resources are well managed but it quite unfortunate the pilots are laymen and in a situation like this, the plane is heading for a crash. The election is been monetized, the candidates with the fattest pocket win the ballot.

When politicians invest their money into politics how on earth do we expect them to be a Saint in office, the political arena in Nigeria is seen as a lucrative business venture and never a call to duty.

Carpet-crossing is another thing that got me cracking up my rips, they switch parties like they are dropping habits, most times I wonder if those parties have any ideology behind their creation. You will see a politician who carpet-cross just because he wants to get his own personal gain, these guys just lack a sense of a defined direction for the country, all they care is the financial direction to their bank account.

Another thing is, the political scene over here is a kabalocratic one, you hardly find a person who is not one of them in the Nigerian political field, you just can't beat them, if you love yourself just join them. No value for human life when it comes to politics and election, there is no single election conducted where casualties are not been recorded, it is a grave affair down here. The same set of friends or can I call them fraternity has ruled the country since inception. The current president was a head of state in 1983 and he came back as a civilian president in 2015 and even bidding for a second term despite falling woefully in his governmental duty, it is just appalling.

What is the way forward

Thank God for the internet and other technological advancement, the people are getting enlighten now, formerly we use to have a single television station controlled by the government, newspapers and the rest, the people just accept what ever these censored media dishes out to them. The people should be politically socialized, according to Williams Blackstone, he said "I implore every gentleman to be abreast of the laws of the society they find themselves" if the Nigerian citizens can know these and follow this bitter truth, then liberation is near.

The national wealth is never for some but for all, we must have that sense of belonging and belief, we are too scared of death but a lot of things are hunting and killing us, if we can die on a course to liberate our nation and world, it is highly commendable, than to die of hunger and malaria. The fear has been far built in the heart of the people to a point some has been seen as the ruling class and these ruling class has made the height look unattainable to the average man, we just need to believe to live.

Don't let your world rule you, but instead, rule your world, poverty shouldn't make you lose your sanity, say no to political thuggery and scavenging, the money given to you by this men is just to mortgage your future, they don't care about us.
