Black eye to big tech? PewDiePie Picks DLive as Exclusive Live-Streaming Platform, Will Donate Up to $50,000 to Other Creators
PewDiePie, YouTube’s most popular individual creator, is throwing his weight behind DLive — a live-streaming video service that promises far better economic terms for creators than other major platforms.
The vlogger-gamer-comedian, whose name is Felix Kjellberg, says he will use DLive exclusively (for the next several months, anyway) to present weekly live-streams. PewDiePie is slated to kick off his first official DLive stream on Sunday, April 14, at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, at dlive.tv/pewdiepie and the DLive app.
DLive is built on top of the Lino Network blockchain-based currency system. The DLive service doesn’t take a cut of the revenue generated by live-streaming creators through subscriptions or digital “gifts” and it pledges that it never will. That’s compared with other providers, including Amazon’s Twitch, which keeps 50% of channel subscription revenue. In addition, DLive generates credits to reward other participating live-streamers based on consumption of their content.
PewDiePie appears to be jumping ship on these big tech companies that quite literally make millions off of his videos. Can anyone blame him for trying out dlive where you keep all the rewards and don't have to worry about what you say on it because there's no censorship.
These social media companies are dying and PewDiePie just took a big step to kill them off faster. People are sick of the censorship, rule changes and declining revenue that it's only a matter of time before people start leaving these companies for alternatives and there are a lot of alternatives out there. There's Dlive, Dtube, Bitchute and more where folks can go and share whatever they want with people and not have to worry about being censored. I can see Youtube changing over the next few years from a social media platforms to an entertainment platform that competes with Netflix and Amazon.
And you know these tech companies will retaliate against him for doing this. Watch him say something offensive on Dlive and youtube bans him or they pull an Alex Jones blackout of him where one social media sites ban him and the rest just follow along. This is really good news for freedom and bad news for the authoritarian tech companies. One of their star slaves just jumped shipped. I hope millions more follow his lead.
