Dutch Journalists Demand Truth

in #informationwar5 years ago

Although the interview I'll be using is from where I live, The Netherlands, I'm not willing to go as far as to say that journalism over here is of a better quality in general than anywhere else in the world. We also have our mainstream media, and over here they are also seen as liberals.

This stigma of "the liberal media" is as old as the media exist, which is no surprise; whenever the general population gets their hands on a platform to express their own perspective, be it the invention of the printing press or the advent of the internet, as soon as we're no longer solely depending on the news that's fed to us through "official channels", the age old struggle between the classes gains renewed momentum. These are the periods in history when we, the people, uncover the truth about the lies being fed to us by the ruling class.

These periods of relative ease of access to dissenting voices are short lived however; the mainstream media have been bought and paid for already (they're not "left" nor "liberal" anymore, they're also not "right" or "conservative", they're "corporate" and have been for decades), and the same business interests are now hard at work at gaining full control over the internet, with Google, YouTube and Facebook shutting up dissenting voices like Alex Jones and Sargon of Akkad. Not only bu closing their channels, but by burying their content in the lowest regions of search result pages. This time though, it seems we might have a chance to stay one step ahead with help of decentralized public blockchain technology, but that's another topic, best left to someone with a better understanding of this technology. But the whole premise of "what's on the blockchain stays there forever", is a strong weapon against revision of historical facts for political gains.

The observable fact that mainstream journalists are just repeating the words from official press releases, giving their audience "talking points" to quibble about with colleagues at work, makes the video I've linked below stand out. The Dutch ambassador to the United States is Pete Hoekstra, who was actually born in the city where I've lived for a long time, made some statements about The Netherlands that were blatant lies, I believe in order to add to the Islamophobia. He claimed that there are "no go zones" over here where "cars and politicians are set on fire".

Now this kind of lie is nothing new: many people around the world still believe to this day that Saddam Hussein had something to do with the 9/11 attacks, something for which there's zero evidence, yet has been spoon fed to the world by the world's mainstream media outlets, by word of their respective politicians. And in many cases not by literally saying it, but by constantly and repeatedly associating the two. Remember that the "coalition of the willing" consisted of almost 50 countries, one of which was The Netherlands. Pete Hoekstra's version of truth has always been shady:

On June 22, 2006, Hoekstra made headlines by announcing at a press conference in the Capitol that weapons of mass destruction had been located in Iraq in the form of 500 chemical weapons.

A number of other media outlets disputed the claims made by Hoekstra and Rick Santorum regarding the existence of weapons of mass destruction, reporting that the claims were disputed by both Pentagon officials, the Duelfer Report, and the intelligence community.

[...]

As of September 17, 2007, some news outlets reported that the Congressional committee Hoekstra had overseen had created "erroneous" and "misleading" reports about Iran's nuclear capabilities. "Among the committee's assertions is that Iran is producing weapons-grade uranium at its facility in the town of Natanz. The IAEA called that "incorrect", noting that weapons-grade uranium is enriched to a level of 90 percent or more. Iran has enriched uranium to 3.5 percent under IAEA monitoring."

This just to give an idea of who the target of the journalists' questions is. And to be completely fair to the man, he did eventually retract his statements and expressed his dismay two months afterwards in the Dutch newspaper "De Telegraaf". That was on January 12, one day after this video was published:
