Mad As Hell!!

I'm from the Netherlands and this is just today's top economical "news"-item, but I'm positive that this trend is world-wide. And needs to stop. NOW.

Top Incomes Increased Even Faster Last Year

I give you a translation of this news-item because I'm sure you can find a recent equivalent of this "news" in your own country; we're all part of the same unjust failing world economy after all. The article begins like this:

Last year the salary of the highest [Dutch] directors increased by an average of 4.2 percent. It is an increase from 757,000 euros to 789,000 euros. This was mainly due to an increase in bonuses, which in many cases were more than 10 percent higher.

This is not news. This has been going on for decades. At the very least since the nineteen eighties every year this "news" upsets us regular folks for a short time, but we almost never protest or go on a strike, like we used to when unions were still a thing. All we do is complain, but we take no action. Even now, here in the cryptosphere, where we found each other mainly because of a shared belief in a better and fairer financial future with equal opportunity for everyone, most people I talk to seem to expect the crypto-currencies to do the hard work for them. So even here we take no action an let the "whales" do their thing undisturbed, while frantically hunting for the next technological revolution on the blockchain to do the leveling for us. That's not gonna work. Our behavior needs to change. The whales'behavior needs to change.

Back to the off-chain news from The Netherlands:

Nancy McKinstry, the American top woman of information company Wolters Kluwer, was again the best-paid chairman of the board last year. She received a total of 14.5 million euros in basic salary, bonus, pension, expenses and share gains.

Polman is in second place. His remuneration rose by almost a third to 11.7 million euros.

I don't care what you call the economic model that allows this. You should feel sick to your stomach when reading bullshit like this. Any system in which it is okay, applauded even by some deranged I-Fundamentalists, for someone that already is handed more money he could spend in three lifetimes to receive (I refuse to use the word "earn" here) one third on top of that, while paying the employees that do the actual value-adding labor scraps, must END.

This here is the race to the top among the top-management of the top companies in the world, which leads to the race to the bottom for the rest of us (and the environment). In a capitalist economy without the traditional borders, these managers have more "competitors" to compare their own income with. I won't show the cartoon because of copyrights, but it has a depiction of some stairs, with a manager on each of the steps, with Apple's Tim Cook on top flanked by his 86,800,000 euro income. All the managers on the lower steps are pointing up to the one on the next step. It shows how each of them is trying to get one step up; Volkswagon's Matthias Muller has some way to go to get in the neighborhood of Tim Cook, so we can safely assume these megalomaniacs will be at it for decades to come.

Unless we finally and collectively say NO MORE! THAT'S ENOUGH! IT'S OUR TURN NOW! The problem with this however lies in the fact that "we" only stand a chance if we do this as a collective. The workers of this planet need to unite. In a global economy there's really no use in getting results as an individual country: the managers will take their company to someplace where people will gladly work for a fraction of what you get paid now.

How do we do this? How do we unite? How do we recognize that the real enemy isn't this or that country or this or that religion or this or that ethnic group, but these megalomaniacs that think they rule the world. Steemit seems like as good a place to start as anywhere. So if you "approve of this message", please resteem this as much as possible, the button is right there at the bottom-right of this post. Add your own ideas about this, attach a news-item about this topic from your own country or state. Now, for some inspiration I'm gonna give you some of my favorite movie-scenes.

This one by Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises (Batman is the best superhero, deal with it ;-)):

"There's a storm coming, Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us."

The Dark Knight Rises: "There's a storm coming, Mr. Wayne"

First, we must get mad and STAY mad; from the newsreader Howard Beale in the movie Network, who realizes how fake the news really is and how television's used as a device of mass deception:

I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore! Speech from Network

If you haven't seen this 1976 movie yet, go watch it. Trust me, you'll recognize so much from this era we live in right now. So, stick your head out of the virtual window and show how mad you really are by resteeming this post to everybody. Maybe, like mr. Beale, we can wake some souls up to the reality of the world, life and the universe ;-)

Howard Beale has some measure of success, as he gets loads of people to answer his call to action. The ending of that movie however is sad, as it predicts the advent of a globalized economy in which the world will become a corporation, or at least managed like one, in a monologue by the CEO of the television-company he works for:

"The World is a Corporation" (Network, 1976)

And thus the current dogma of world-capitalism was born... "The natural order of things today", as so many people seem to agree with CEO Arthur Jensen, played by Ned Beatty. Don't fall for it any longer. When reading stuff like the news-item I quoted today there's only one natural reaction in my view: become mad as hell and declare you won't take it anymore!

I seem to be ranting a lot lately, sorry for that: I should have left that newspaper alone, I hadn't read one in years it seems, and was doing so well :-) Anyhow, thank you for sticking around and hopefully I'll be calm again tomorrow. Keep Steeming!

P.S. Directly unrelated, butTrump's picture / meme just seemed to fit the title very well...

Just for Full Disclosure, I'm invested in these crypto-currencies:

Bitcoin | Litecoin | EOS | OmiseGo | FunFair | KIN | Pillar | DENT | Polymath | XDCE | 0x | Decred | Ethereum | Carmel | XYO

Sort:

My philosophy why not aim a wealthy chair or CEO position. People love complain without doing anything to change their own existence, in life you need to take actions.
