Shave Like A Man!

in #informationwar5 years ago

In the aftermath of the extremely "woke" Gillette commercial in which they accused men of being, well, pigs essentially, a lot of articles and videos were produced to let Gillette know how stupid this move was.

But, like I wrote some time ago, this negative backlash doesn't have to be a negative for Gillette at all; negative attention is attention too, and in that regard, this woke commercial is a great success, as we're still talking about it now. This whole discussion distracts from the real problem with Gillette and it's products, which is that they produce disposable garbage that adds to all other garbage we produce for the sole reason to be disposed of after use, while we should produce products that last and don't add to the immense pollution. It's the need to grow and make more and more money that leads us to come up with these wacky ideas of disposable stuff; if you want to become rich, you don't make something you can sell only once, but something that keeps your customers coming back for more.

Let's talk diapers before we talk about men. Pampers and other diaper-manufacturers are guilty of the same; most people have forgotten that we used to use cotton diapers on our babies, that we washed and used over and over again. I'm not suggesting all fresh parents grab a large handkerchief and pin it on their baby's butt; cloth has had some technical development too in recent decades, and we now have cloth diapers with super absorbent pads, that are easy to put on and take off, and simple to clean in your own washer and dryer. They're not only better for the environment, but also gentler on your wallet: using disposables will set you back at least 2000 dollar, when you can buy twenty expensive cloth diapers for only 400 dollar. Here's some advice for starting with cloth diapers: 6 Reasons Why Cloth Diapers Are Better Than Disposables (And 1 Reason Why They Ain’t).

Back to Gillette and men shaving their facial hair; I found a nice video that talks about the exact same thing. David Stewart made a response video about the Gillette commercial, but he focuses on the real problem of the disposable nature of their products. What I like about it, is that he shows the alternative ways to shave; he calls it "shaving like your grandfather", and it boils down to using a razor that lasts a lifetime.
