Investigative Journalism To Keep Us Awake

Today I'll share with you a video from one of the best investigative journalists I've come across: Greg Palast. He's largely ignored by the mainstream media, and you'll understand why after you've watched the video. It's an older speech he did in 2005 or 2006, but it is necessary to be reminded about what he talks about here. We must not forget that we still live in a post 9/11 world. A crime that's never been solved, was used to definitively usher us into the perpetual "war against terrorism". This video is from the time right after the U.S. president warned about a "smoking gun that appears in the form of a mushroom-cloud"... Did that trigger a memory? Did you already forget that term?

We're overloaded, in our modern lives, with audio-visual input on a constant basis. The 24-hour-economy barrages us with a constant stream of unimportant fake news and brain-cell-killing entertainment so we forget what's important. We still live in the world after the Patriot Act. We see around us many characteristics from the politics in Europe in the run-up to fascist governments in Germany and Italy, and 9/11 was used to accelerate that troublesome process. So, please take the time to listen to this admirable journalist; I promise, he's funny also :-)

I remember a book, by Naomi Wolf, entitled "The End Of America", in which she outlines the 10 main signs to watch out for, so you can recognize the rise of fascism. I'm glad I found her talk on that book: I linked for you below. Fascism often starts as a democracy; Hitler and Mussolini were both elected into power. Wolf discusses the methods used to close of that democracy, to kill it from within, and how she now sees those signs in American politics. Please, if you have some time left over, watch that one to.

I hope these were of some interest to you and that Greg and Naomi did for you what they did for me: kept me informed and watchful. Especially take note of what Naomi hast to say about the slow decline of free speech and the war against investigative journalism. Remember the ill-advised use of "embedded journalism" introduced in the Gulf Wars? Clinical reports coming from heavily redacted journalists that parrot the governments propaganda is what we got out of that, a far cry from the much rawer pictures we got from Vietnam in a time we were allowed to see how horrible war really is...
