Social media is a phrase that we throw around a lot these days, often to describe what we post on sites and apps like Steemit, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and others. according to Neilsen, a global information, and measurement company, Internet users spend more time on social media sites than any other types of site. But the questions are What Social Media means? What are the different types of Social Media? To know that keep reading until the END!

The "social" refers to interacting with other people by sharing information with them and receiving information from them. And "media" refers to an instrument of communication, like the internet. So Social Media means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.

There are six types of social media:

a. Social Networks
  These are sites that allow you to connect with other people with the same interest or background. Once a user creates his or her account, he or she can set up a profile, add people, create groups and share content.

b. Bookmarking Sites
 These are sites that allow you to store and manage links to various websites and resources. Most of these sites allow you to create a tag that allows you others to easily search or share them.

c. Social News
 These are sites that allow user to post their own news items or links to ther news source. The users can also comment on the post and comments may also be ranked. They are also capable of voting on these news articles of the websie. These who get the most amount of votes are shown most prominently.

d. Media Sharing
 These are sites that allow you to upload and share media content like images, music, and video. Most of these sites have additional social features like liking, commenting, and having user profiles.

e. Microblogging

 These are sites that fucos on short updates from the user. Those subcribed to the user will be able to receive the updates.

f. Blogs and Foums
&esmp;These websites allow users to post their content. Other users are able to comment on the said topic. On the other hand, forums are typically part of a certain website or web service. There are several free blogging platforms:

Social media is about conversations, community, connecting with the audience and building relationships. It is not just a broadcast channel or a sales and marketing tool.

Social media not only allows you to hear what people say about you, but enables you to respond. Listen first, speak second.
