It's a pleasure to meet you,

My name is Josie Maxine Gallows. I feel like these sorts of introductions are meant to be a resume and I'm sometimes nervous about coming across as a pretentious cunt. But, the job is holding your interest so here are the things I've done, I'm doing, and I've committed myself to doing barring natural disaster or sudden Deep Vein Thrombosis.

For my day job I'm a Dominatrix. I couldn't ask for a less vanilla life and I wouldn't have it any other way. On the daily, I'm an author and artist mainly in the occult, Satanism, fringe social commentary, gender & sexuality, and minimalist confessional art. When I'm not writing or painting I'm making punk music. Currently in Saint Petersburg, FL, but making my way to NYC to fully exploit myself. I'm the guitarist and lyricist for underground punk band Scumbag Billionaires and kick around with NYC punkrock darlings COMRADES.

My sociopolitical bracket is [Transsexual Woman]. Stereotypes form in people's minds the minute I admit to this fact. Or X-rated images. Either way, I'm self-respecting but not an uptight freaked out caucazoid.

If I could give you the short, sweet and sour of my autobiography I'd tell you I was raised by Jesus Christ. Specifically, a fugitive outlaw who was a part time Jesus Christ impersonator with faith healing hands and the whole shebang. It's a story. My story is sordid. I've spent my years travelling throughout the shady places, here and there. I did the college thing and considered it a waste of time. But I'm a formally trained historian with a focus on criminology; those are feathers in a cap that I'll never wear. Still, you can learn a lot from the crooks, weasels, grifters, hookers, and pimps. Later I would get involved in advocacy for victims of violent crime.

I've done a bunch of corporate jobs and know my way around the straight world and how to business with the squeamish. That's the boring part of my life I'm trying to leave as far behind me as possible. Except when it means funding for my passions. I'm not against a dollar.

Over the last 15 years I've had notable and garbage bin publications, all of them under pseudonyms.

In recent years I've committed to writing under my real name instead. My first honest-to-goodness publication, A Greasy Wind, won me Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay Reader's Choice Award for Best Local Poet. A Greasy Wind is currently out of print but due back soon. I've penned viral articles on my current city and why people shouldn't move here, but they moved here anyway.
