My name is Marcos Mora

This is my first post ever on STEEMIT, as I am a very “by the book” person so I read the Quick Start Guide and wrote a sign on piece of paper for the picture. By the way, it is technically me on that photo, just my hand instead of my face, I’m sure you can appreciate the difficulty of getting a head in such a background without copious amount of tape to the wall.

My goal on Steemit is to improve my writing, citation and research skills. Been this a community of curators I’m sure I can get some advice and careful critique to reach the point that I can be hired to write.

Favorite Books

• I quite love all the Harry Potterbooks, I had the fortune of being at the right age by the time of its prime.
• Don Quixote is probably cliché in some countries, but I like it by what it is: a dreamer who stepped outside his home to pursue his dream.
• One Hundred Years of Solitude will definitely ring a bell for some readers: it’s often mandatory in literature courses on Latin-America as a monumental take on the themes of home, family and new beginnings.
• Economics and politics: This category deserves a post on its own, given that i’m both an economics student AND a freedom fighter (and that delves into politics) I have a background of knowledge on the matter, and these books are just the Entrée: here (If pressed to recommend only one, let it be Human Action by Ludwig von Mises)

Favorite Shorts

• Economics rules the world —well, thats not quite right— rulers rule the world, and knowledge of economics is a tool to avoid being stepped on by the rulers, and that knowledge has a price, about 42 classes worth of price which are probably the best gratis investment you will ever make: 42 lessons
• The American Dream Film is quite the amusing 30 minutes animated short film that presents the problem of money and the 2008 crisis by putting the blame where it belongs: the non-freedom parts of our system, the rulers: part 1 part 2
• As a former student of the Computer Engineering career I find this crude clip —made by companions— to be hilarious (warning! the level of geekiness, linux and open source is over 9000) here

Favorite Movies

• The Lord Of The Ringstrilogy is a must, I consider it to be the best series of movies ever created, every December (2001, 2002 and 2003) was the perfect reason to go to the theater.
• The Alien movie series deserves a spot here, and Im quite happy to see the new Prometheus follow up to the franchise.
• Star Wars films are a no-brainer both for me and my group of freedom fighters, they represent more than just a classic good vs evil epic, it’s the ultimate pursue of ideals, self improvement to match them and to shape the world (universe) around them.
• I could probably go on but I will just leave here a special mention to animated movies, whether they are from Disney, Pixar or —specially— Japanese Anime movies

Favorite TV Series

• Game of Thrones is a rollercoaster of emotions, the love for the characters is what drives me in: their hardships, their successes, the feeling that nothing is safe, nothing is given, feels sometimes more real than life itself despite being a world of fantasy fire dragons.
• House M.D. can make me smile at every snark remark of this eccentric, misanthropic but quite smart physician
• This time the animated breed constitute the bast majority of the “series” section. Mostly anime (Evangelion tops the pudding) but also The Simpsons, Hey, Arnold! and a handful of others that where part of any given healthy childhood.

Favorite Video Games

• I classify my leisure time in 3 categories: to hangout (friends, family, companions), to watch (TV, movies, read) and to play video games. First comes the king: World of Warcraft, do I really have to explain why it is the king? shame I have been unable to play it from 2014, due to the dire economic circumstances imposed by the rulers of my country.
• Age of Empires II shall never be forgotten (pun intended) as one of the best RTS games still rolling. The whole genre deserves its own collection of post, but I will mention: Command and Conquer, Warcraft and Starcraft
• Hearthstone is an amazing rethink of one of my favorite table top games: Magic The Gathering trading card game. Adapted both be simpler and to include mechanics impossible to replicate on a cardboard game.
• Considering the poor old laptop I own, apart from Hearthstone, the other game I play is World of Tanks Blitz, as in “the mobile petit version” of the game. I could make honor mention to mobile console games like Pokemon but that poor handheld no longer works.

More About myself

We are already almost a thousand words in, and i’m incurring in the danger to be boring you all. So Im gonna cut corners and state my goal in life clearly: I want to free my country from tyranny, and I have helped build up a group of like-minded-people called DSDVZLA to archive that goal under the guidance of @juliococo (intro) and many other Venezuelans like @nnnarvaez (intro) in and out our beloved country to fulfill that ultimate purpose. I’m also member of a libertarian NGO that uses a porcupine as mascot, pretty cool right?

But there is a catch, this is a totalitarian dictatorship after all, and the control it has over the economy is exercised in a manner only the cronies and few others can function under formal economy, the rest of us are either fleeing the country or barely surviving and best way to do it is to tap into “informal” economy and —for example— work remotely, get paid in foreign currencies (or cryptocurrencies) and them exchange them for the local currency in order to buy groceries, and get then fast, before hyperinflation kicks in the next week, in an unpredictable manner. I have never done any of those activities, but I’m willing to learn.

All that said, what I need is a way to work part time and still survive (my in-home PC repair job no longer cuts it) so I can volunteer all my non-working hours to archive freedom side-by-side with my fellow dissidents. I maintain careful accounting, I seek to earn 80 USD a month to press on.

Three questions to finish:

1. I have already mentioned a bunch of themes all around this post, which of them would you like me to write about first? what themes would make good follow ups after that one?
2. I appreciate constructive criticism to improve both my english and my writing in general, please tell me what am I doing right and what am I doing wrong.
3. May you tell me what are your experiences working remotely or doing other things online that pay? I will delve into then in order to fulfill my goal.

Mi nombre es Marcos Mora

Esta es mi primera publicación en STEEMIT, ya que soy una persona muy “según el manual”, así que leí la Guía de inicio rápido y escribí en una hoja de papel para la imagen. Por cierto, técnicamente soy yo en esa foto, solo mi mano en lugar de mi cara, estoy seguro de que se puede apreciar la dificultad de colocar una cabeza en ese fondo sin una gran cantidad de cinta adhesiva en la pared.

Mi objetivo en Steemit es mejorar mis habilidades de escritura, citas e investigación. Siendo esta una comunidad de curadores, estoy seguro de que puedo obtener algunos consejos y una crítica cuidadosa, hasta llegar al punto en que pueda ser contratado para escribir.

• Economía y política: esta categoría merece un artículo por sí misma, dado que soy tanto un estudiante de economía como un luchador por la libertad (y eso implica política) tengo conocimiento sobre el tema, y estos libros son solo la entrada: aquí (si tengo que recomendar solo, que sea La Acción Humana por Ludwig von Mises)

• La economía gobierna el mundo —bueno, eso no está del todo bien— los gobernantes dominan el mundo, y el conocimiento de la economía es una herramienta para evitar ser pisoteados por los gobernantes, y ese conocimiento tiene un precio, alrededor de 42 clases, precio que probablemente sea la mejor inversión gratuita que harás alguna vez: 42 lecciones
• The American Dream Film es un divertido corto de animación de 30 minutos que presenta el problema del dinero y la crisis de 2008 al colocar la culpa a donde pertenece: las partes de nuestro sistema que no son libertad: los gobernantes. Doblado Subtitulado
• Como antiguo alumno de la carrera de Ingeniería en Computación, encuentro este clip (hecho por compañeros) hilarante (¡advertencia! El nivel geek, linux y opensource es más de 9000) aquí

Películas favoritas

• La trilogía de El Señor de los Anillos es imprescindible, considero que es la mejor serie de películas jamás creada, cada diciembre (2001, 2002 y 2003) fue la razón perfecta para ir al cine.
• La serie de películas Alien merece un lugar aquí, y estoy muy feliz de ver la adición de Prometheus a la franquicia.
• Las películas de Star Wars son extraordinarias tanto para mí como para mi grupo de luchadores por la libertad, representan mucho más que una épica clásica del bien contra el mal, es la máxima búsqueda de ideales, de superación personal para cumplirlos y dar forma al mundo (universo) a su alrededor.
• Podría continuar, pero dejaré aquí una mención especial a las películas animadas, ya sean de Disney, Pixar o, especialmente, películas japonesas de Anime.

Series de TV favoritas

• Game of Thrones es una montaña rusa de emociones, el amor por los personajes es lo que me impulsa: sus dificultades, sus éxitos, la sensación de que nada es seguro, nada está dado, se siente a veces más real que la vida misma a pesar de ser un mundo de dragones de fuego de fantasía.
• Dr. House puede hacerme sonreír ante cada observación sarcástica de este excéntrico, misantrópico pero bastante inteligente médico.
• Esta vez, la animación constituye la basta mayoría de la sección "series". Principalmente anime (Evangelion es la cereza del pastel) pero también Los Simpson, ¡Hey, Arnold! y un puñado de otros que forman parte de cualquier infancia saludable.

Videojuegos favoritos

• Clasifico mi tiempo libre en 3 categorías: salir (con amigos, familia, compañeros), ver (TV, películas, leer) y jugar videojuegos. Primero viene el rey: World of Warcraft, ¿realmente tengo que explicar por qué es el rey? Lástima que no he podido jugarlo desde 2014, debido a las terribles circunstancias económicas impuestas por los gobernantes de mi país.
• Age of Empires II nunca será olvidado como uno de los mejores juegos de estrategia en tiempo real que aún está activo. Todo el género merece su propia colección de publicaciones, pero mencionaré: Command and Conquer, Warcraft y Starcraft.
• Hearthstone es un increíble replanteamiento de uno de mis juegos de mesa favoritos: el juego de cartas coleccionables Magic The Gathering. Más simple e incluye mecanismos imposibles de replicar en un juego de físico.
• Considerando la pobre computadora portátil que poseo, aparte de Hearthstone, lo otro que juego es World of Tanks Blitz, es decir, "la versión petit móvil" del juego. Podría hacer mención honorable a los juegos de consola portátil como Pokemon, pero la pobre ya no funciona.

Más sobre mi

Ya llevamos casi mil palabras, y estoy incurriendo en el riesgo de aburrirlos a todos. Así que voy tomar un atajo y expresar claramente mi objetivo en la vida: quiero liberar a mi país de la tiranía, y he ayudado a formar un grupo de personas con ideas afines llamado DSDVZLA para lograr ese objetivo bajo la guía de @juliococo (presentación)y muchos otros venezolanos como @nnnarvaez (presentación) tanto dentro como fuera de nuestro amado país para cumplir ese propósito final. También soy miembro de una ONG libertaria que usa un puercoespín como mascota, ¿genial, cierto?.

Pero hay una trampa, esta es una dictadura totalitaria después de todo, y el control que ejerce sobre la economía se ejerce de manera que solo los compinches y pocos otros puedan funcionar bajo la economía formal, el resto de nosotros estamos huyendo del país o apenas sobrevivimos y la mejor forma de hacerlo es acceder a la economía "informal" y, por ejemplo, trabajar de forma remota, recibir pagos en moneda extranjera (o criptomonedas) y cambiarlos por la moneda local para comprar víveres, y hacerlo rápidamente, antes de que la hiperinflación destruya el precio la próxima semana, de una manera impredecible. Nunca he hecho ninguna de esas actividades, pero estoy dispuesto a aprender.

Dicho todo esto, lo que necesito es una forma de trabajar a tiempo parcial y aún sobrevivir (mi trabajo de reparación de PCs en el hogar ya no basta) para poder ofrecer voluntariamente todas mis horas no laborables para lograr la libertad lado a lado con mis compañeros disidentes. Mantengo una contabilidad cuidadosa, quiero ganar 80 USD al mes para seguir adelante.

Tres preguntas para terminar:

1. Ya he mencionado un montón de temas alrededor de esta publicación, ¿sobre cuál de ellos te gustaría que escriba primero? ¿Qué temas te gustarían después de ese?
2. Agradezco la crítica constructiva para mejorar mi inglés y mi escritura en general, por favor díganme qué estoy haciendo bien y qué estoy haciendo mal.
3. ¿Pueden decirme cuáles son sus experiencias trabajando a distancia o haciendo otras cosas en línea que pagan? Profundizaré en eso para cumplir mi objetivo.
