This is an extensive instructional/reference guide which is intended to provide non-intimidating and unambiguous guide for persons new to the Steemit platform and also for old Steemit users that needs a quick jump-start guide for their prospects.

You are encouraged to use this guide as often as possible and resteem it as much as possible.

WHAT IS STEEMIT?

images(2).jpg

Steemit is an incentivized social media cum blogging platform that pays people for creating and curating contents. In other words, you get paid when people Upvote (like) your posts and also, when you Upvote(like) other people's posts. Steemit runs on the Steem Blockchain database. If you like using Facebook and Reddit, then you will equally like to use Steemit.

It is important you know that Steemit is not a get-rich-quick scheme neither is it a referral scheme. Nobody pays you for referring anyone to Steemit. However, the benefit of encouraging people to join the band wagon of Steemit users could be in the form of having loyalists who will always be ready to upvote your posts. Remember, the more upvotes you get, the more money you make.

IN WHAT CURRENCY WILL I BE PAID?
Usually, rewards are paid to you in Steem Dollar and Steem Power.

WHAT IS STEEM, STEEM DOLLAR AND STEEM POWER?

✅ STEEM

images(3).png

Steem is a crypto token used to power the Steemit platform. Steem is just like Bitcoin and is currently listed on the Coin Market Capitalization website. Steem is tradable and can be converted to Bitcoin and Ethereum within minutes on crypto currency exchanges. From another point of view, Steem can also be defined as a blockchain-based platform upon which Steemit network is built. But don’t bother about this second definition as it is not necessary at this level of your involvement.

✅STEEM DOLLAR (SBD)

images(3).jpg

This is the currency used for transaction within the Steemit platform. For you to convert Steem Dollar to Bitcoin or USD, you will have to first convert it to Steem. Whenever you decide to liquidate your Steem dollar, you will get as many Steem it takes to get to that value of Steem Dollar in US Dollar based on prevailing market rate per time.

✅ STEEM POWER (SP)

images(4).jpg

This is a token that determines your level of Influence in the Steemit Network. The more Steem Power you have, the larger the amount of Steem Dollars and Steem Power authors will earn whenever you upvote their posts. Also, the more your steem power you have, the more your earnings will be from curation.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?
To join the Steemit platform, you simply go to www.steemit.com and create an account. It might take a few days for this account to be verified and confirmed. In creating your account, you can either use your real name or a pseudo name. You must securely save your generated password. Remember these Steemit Rules of thumb as stated by Steemit.

✅The first rule of Steemit is: Do not lose your password.
✅The second rule of Steemit is: Do not lose your password.
✅The third rule of Steemit is: We cannot recover your password.
✅The fourth rule: If you can remember the password, it's not secure.
✅The fifth rule: Use only randomly-generated passwords.
✅The sixth rule: Do not tell anyone your password.
✅The seventh rule: Always back up your password."

Congratulations, You are now ready to make your first post!

HOW DO I MAKE MY FIRST POST?

To make your first post, click on the post button on the top right corner of your screen.

Screenshot_2017-12-12-09-05-10.png

Your first post should be your introductory post. In this post, you will tell the community who you are and possibly what the community should expect from you. The following tips will make your post look interesting

  1. Insert multimedia (pictures and videos) elements in your posts. Note that video files can slow down the rate at which your post loads on browsers

  2. Ensure proper spacing between your pictures and texts

  3. Use the right tags

  4. Avoid Plagiarism (Steeling of intellectual property or copying other people’s work). This is a cardinal sin on Steemit and you will be penalized if detected. If you are using information from other people’s work, ensure you reference your sources properly. Do remember to reference your image sources properly too.

  5. If you are making statements about other Steemit users, refer to them with their username for example @nathanieloamhen

The title of your first post could be “MY FIRST STEEMIT POST” or any other title you wish to use and this should be written in the topmost text area.
The middle text area is where your main blog post should be written
The bottom text area is where you type your tags.
You are only allowed to input five tags and all should be in lower case.
In your introductory post you must include “introduceyourself” as one of your tags. If I were writing my introductory post right now, I would use these tags: introduceyourself nigeria promo-steem stach steemitcircle

At the bottom right side of your post screen, click the upvote post button and choose from available options how you want your rewards to be paid.

Click on the post button to post your blog.

TIPS TO SUCCEED ON STEEMIT

images(6).jpg

The following tips will help you a great deal while trying to succeed on Steemit.

✅ Be consistent. Initially you might not be making lots of money from your posts. You will struggle to get few upvotes and few cents but don't be discouraged. Keep at it. Keep making efforts by creating great content and curating great contents too. With time you will start making good money from your posts. And remember, those few cents or dollars you are making now will be worth thousands of dollars in a short while because Steem and Steem dollar are cryptocurrencies that are still very low in value but are growing rapidly.

✅ Search for Quality post by other users and curate. This is a very important way of making money on Steemit. Even if you don't have any post to share, just go around curating and you will be making some good money

✅ Network and interact with other users. Join Steemit Whatsapp and Telegram chat groups. Look for users with like minds and interest and network with them. Another great place to network with people is on Steemit chat and Discord.

✅ Do not plagiarize. Be original. Copying other people's intellectual property is not allowed on Steemit.

✅ Comment on posts. Don't just lazy around posts by not reading them. Spend time to read posts dropped by other users and make quality comment. Comments could be short or long. This way you could get new followers and even upvotes on your comment. Avoid comments like "nice post" "Beautiful". These type of comments shows that you never took out time to read the post.

✅ The quality and frequency of your publication matters. You should strive to drop at the least one post a day and at the list 2 quality posts per week. A quality post or content is usually original, beautifully structured, well articulated, nicely presented with pictures and if possible videos. You can talk about anything you are passionate about.

✅ Don't go about begging for upvotes, followership and resteem. People usually don't like this. You might end up getting downvoted instead of getting upvoted. The best way to attract attention for upvote and followership is by churning out quality content and making effective comments on posts.

✅Do personal research. Get on Google and YouTube and get useful information for yourself. Knowledge is power.

✅ Follow quality people on Steemit. Don't just go following anybody for the sake of it. Look for quality people and follow. You can go to www.steemwhales.com to filter and search for people you can follow. Some quality individuals you might want to follow are:

@jerrybanfield
@kaylinart
@papa-pepper
@trafalgar
@surpassinggoogle
@thecryptofiend
@aggroed
@kus-knee
@nathanieloamhen
