My thoughts after spending my first week with 25sp

in #introduceyourself6 years ago (edited)

Hello, I'm a new user to steemit who had wished to invest in the STEEM blockchain. I'd heard from so many people that not only is STEEM the most technologically advanced blockchain but its also the only blockchain pushing over 10,000k tps that has actually had a mainnet up for 2+ years. I find this to be very impressive compared to other blockchains such as EOS who tote crazy numbers but have never actually had a chance to test them under real world conditions.

Now I understand that the blockchain is fee-less and extremely fast but why does that matter when I'm limited severely by my lack of resource credits. I understand that this is still a work in progress and that things are being hammered out, but if thats the case why are people running around trying to act as it this blockchain is any more ready for adoption than any other. While voicing my complaints this past week, I've been told that the STEEM blockchain is much more than steemit and that I should not be gauging things at face value here. SOON developers will be coming out with DAOs that have their own interfaces and SMTs that all have different needs and interact differently with the blockchain.

I'm sick and tired of SOON. STEEM was sold to me as a blockchain that has more to offer than soon. Soon to me sounds like the current developers have no idea what they're doing and rolled out a huge problem of a system that was supposed to fix something that wasn't broken to begin with. I've been told that the new system was supposed to make new accounts cheaper and sustainable over the long term, but I don't understand how that is going to help if the new accounts cannot have an enjoyable time with their first interaction with the blockchain? If the problem with attracting new users and investors was that they could not get a free taste of what the blockchain has to offer, then how in the world do yoou expect people to pay even more with the new RC system than they had to before?

Please correct me if im wrong but the if the problem was that people who would not or could not spend $25 to make an account on day one basially would not or could not sign up at all then why make the barrier for entry even higher? It really seems to me here that the people in control are insanely out of touch with reality here.

With all that said Im @publicfrenemy and

Guess that's part of taking part in the process of something in development - Nothing is perfect from the start!

And yes, I can totally understand that soon might be annoying to hear sometimes - But what better alternatives are there atm?

And honestly, the RCs in the beginning should at least be enough for a good #introduceyourself post or another well made post. And I am sure that if you make a great introduction post explaining your problems with only 15sp, someone might see that you could add value and borrow you some RCs through SP-delegation.

From a user who has been here for over a year - Spam became way less through HF20 and I enjoy having less spam comments around.

Yes, the freemium model might have to find a little bit better balance - but I don't think it's all that bad atm.

Is that really enough to on board people though?

thats actually how i was able to post today.

thats awesome, no arguments against that at all

couldn't agree more

in the beginning there was Light, baha
don't get caught up in the drama and believe it or not this is what most of us had starting its just a diff word and we were all limited. i was used to Fakebook so i was commenting and replying like it was "like", we all been there and had to earn our way. it is what it is ... don't have high hopes of getting a handout and just work hard. hard work is what makes it on this platform. period.

Where did i mention getting a handout? I don't have high hopes of getting a handout. I had hope of onboarding tons of people that already have no problem paying for online services with tipping cultures such as twitch, or chatturbate. But if these people cant do anything without paying I highly doubt they are going to like the platform enough to want to pay. @edicted just made an awesome post about twitch and i cant possibly see any of that happening with the current state of the STEEM blockchain.

https://steemit.com/@edicted/steem-is-missing-a-huge-opportunity-on-twitch

Also were not trying to attracting users like yourself anymore. Were trying to attract the masses, so we cant assume that they are going to throw money down the rabbit hole in hopes that something works out in the future. We cant be targeting your average Joe yet expect them all to think like early adopters and investors

it was not an accusation, but a way to approach steemit. a brand new acct/user does not have to pay. it is earned with activity and time. we all started here and if new people purchase steem like many of us have then more rc and mana is given. again, we all started posting in low numbers. i dont know edicted nor do i like twitch. many people do not find steemit their cup o tea. my suggestion is give it a month of high activity then decide. anyhoo, i typically stay away from these situations, but since you dropped into two of my groups thought id give some help.

thank you so much, ill try it. Conceptually I love all of this, and plan on sticking around long enough to see it through its first major contentious hardfork lol, and while I'm voicing my current complaints I'm not averse to recounting everything I said should you be right

if you just got here how do you know what it was like before HF? again dont get caught up in word drama. i started here 10 months ago and had the same exact capability.

ps. looks like you already got a post over $100, iv never gotten that either or many ive known havent sooo not sure why you are rant posting? steemit isnt like other platforms and if you are starting off well, just continue the momentum. also, rep up to 58? ppl who grind onthe daily dont get this kind of help.

i made another account when i first got into crypto, but then got caught up in other projects and forgot about steemit. I don't remember it having such a hard bottleneck then though

Im also transfering STEEM from my old account to here and I purposely chose to put a low amount of SP to test out how RCs worked for people with no SP. SO i guess i kind of lied im not new haha but im not some old whale just a guy whos hung around a lil bit then left but now im back for good

yes, many of us started that way too. i had one account and lost the key. you are not alone. anyway, looks like you have a good support system. Steem on!

yeah i figured you lied, i looked at your account and who upvoted you, i've been around too and i'm in the legal field. i can tell. at any rate, if you "bought" your account that also acts differently than starting as a fresh noob by waiting the 1-2 weeks for steemit, inc to approve it.

I tried making a new account through steemit but with all the problems i figured that it was just better to pay for one

Computer activities, transactions, online and offline, costs electricity, first of all, and may also acquire Internet fees, for bandwidth, and everything. Yeah, a lot of it can be very small. Some of the fees could be compensated by revenue. Steemit is getting free publicity to some extent when we do things here. So, they should pay us. Oh, they do pay us. So, I guess it is a question of how much money we are worth.

I think HF20 is awesome, but the rollout was a POS (not proof-of-stake). They should probably divide operation costs by another factor of 10 while we get the proper mechanics in place.

A big mechanic here is Resource Pools. RC pools will allow someone like me to create a pool that supports 100 other users to post to the blockchain... and I'm not even a dolphin yet. Whales will be able to provide the resources for hundreds of thousands of users to operate on the blockchain.

Soon™ is the worst. But also, hang in there. Soon™.

Welcome to Steem @publicfrenemy.

Do read A thumb rule for steemit minnows - 50:100:200:25 for starter tips.

Spend time reading Steem Blue Paper to know how Steem blockchain works and if you still have any queries ask them on our Ask me anything about Steemit post and we will try to answer that.

All the Best!!!

Welcome to Steemit publicfrenemy. Let me know if you got any questions about Steem or anything related to it! The official FAQ can be found here and has A LOT of information https://steemit.com/faq.html - Also remember, Steemit is just ONE of the sites built that uses Steem the blockchain. We also have DTube - our very own Youtube, DSound for Soundcloud and Steepshot if you prefer Instagram like experience. I'd also like to mention ChainBB - forums, Busy - Steemit with more modern look basically, DMania for memes and Dlive for streaming just like in Twitch! You can also earn Steem by gaming now! Search for Steemgar if that's more your thing. Welcome to the blockchain! :)

Do those things actually work when you have no such a small amount of RCs though?
And sure dtube, vimm, dsound, dmainia, steepshot are all viewable but if people cant upvote how are content creators going to expect to get paid? Without paying the content creators how are the platforms going to have enough content to keep the platforms running
