What is SHA-256? Why it is so popular?
Hello Friends, today I am going to share about SHA-256 the Cryptographic Hash Algorithm.
What is SHA-256?
Basically, SHA-256 is a Cryptographic Hash Algorithm which can take a random size of input and it produces a fixed size of the output.
The hash output is a kind of digital signature which is text formate.
The full name of SHA-256 is Secure Hash Algorithm it is designed by United State National Security Agency (NSA).
* Feature of SHA-256
The interesting part is SHA-256 produce a unique 256-bit signature.
For example :
Hash of abc:BA7816BF8F01CFEA414140DE5DAE2223B00361A396177A9CB410FF61F20015AD
abC:0A2432A1E349D8FDB9BFCA91BBA9E9F2836990FE937193D84DEEF26C6F3B8F76
See the difference I just change one single character so the new hash is completely changed.
It is one-way direction form hash you can not go back to the original input. you probably know about how encryption, decryption works but hash is not like that it always one direction.
* Usability of SHA-256
Now everywhere this hashing algorithm is using you probably seen the wallet address of cryptocurrency, the private key even our steemit account password this all is an output of a hashing algorithm.
Reson of using is basically to provide a secure platform to the user.
