3 profitable alternatives to Self-Voting (Up to 45% interest)

The Infamous Self-Vote.

We've all done it. Well, at least I have. But the truth is, in the long run, self-voting is not only selfish but unsustainable. You'll get downvoted, and if everyone did it, the Steem platform wouldn't make any sense. All the large self-voting whales would destroy the profits of the content creators. Now I am just as guilty of the self-vote as anyone. And I'm not talking about upvoting your own post; I'm talking about upvoting your comments 5+ times per day. So, from now on, I plan on reducing the amount that I self-vote significantly if not entirely. (I will continue to upvote my posts for obvious reasons, but not comments) Together with the entire Steemit Community, we can change Steemit for the better. Authors will get paid more, and spammers will get paid less. Now I will get into three profitable alternatives to Self-Voting.

Alternative #1 - Advanced Curation

Now I know what your're thinking, "I've heard it all, there’s not much money to be made in curation," but you would be wrong. Most users that attempt curation either use a service like Steemvoter or try to do 100% manual curation. Well, I have a better solution.

Understeemed is this cool, little website that allows you to find undervalued posts by predicting what posts will become popular. It ranks the posts by author reputation, previous post-earnings, number or characters, number of images, current value, and number of current upvotes. For example:

With proper experimentation and judgment, you can repeat this process over and over and make a great and fair profit!

Alternative #2 - MinnowBooster (24.5%)

Minnow booster is great for those who don't want to use their own voting power but want to sell it for daily payments instead. They pay out 24.5% interest each year with the payments divided and paid daily. They get to then use that Steempower however they choose. It’s a win-win.

Alternative #3 - Bellyrubbank (45%)

Bellrubbank was created by the well-known witness @zerutul. It is a fantastic alternative to Minnow Booster. You send your SBD or Steem and receive a monthly payment. After three months you will receive 11.25%; after an entire year you will receive 45%. A fantastic deal! There are zero stocks that can offer dividends this good! The only downside is that you have to have your Steem in liquid form, so you'll have to power down your Steempower.

In Conclusion

It's 100% your choice what you do with your upvote. If you want to self-vote, go ahead! But self-voting is harmful and greedy. It breaks up the reward pool and rewards spam instead of quality post creation. High-quality posts will bring outside views from search engines. These increased views will then bring an increase of cash flow into Steem. This will increase the price. (Hopefully!) I hope that this can provide some profitable alternatives to self-voting. Maybe together we can make a difference.

Wow this is a really great post! I will definitely resteem it to my 400 peeps and follow you. You certainly seem to know a lot about Steemit; do you use Busy.org by any chance? I've been meaning to find someone else who uses it to PM so I can test it out and I definitely want to have a convo with your experience on Steemit. If you have some time, discord and want to have a convo about steemit for one of my videos, you should definitely send me a DM to @mk in the brains1ck.tv discord server

I have used busy.org. I prefer to use steemit.com though. I hit you up on discord if you want to talk sometime. Also if you want to test out something on Busy.org im willing. cheers.

I see you have broken your vow and upvoted this comment from six days ago - perhaps just before the deadline? I speak frankly, not to offend, just to open discussion!

yeah to be honest, I am still experimenting. The only reason I self voted was because I am leasing sp from minnowbooster and I realized that I am losing a good amount of money. Once this lease is over I will switch back. And yeah your right, I shouldn't have done it.

@ecoinstant I sent you a message in steemit.chat for further explaination.

I'm not saying I think self voting is harmless but what I wonder is why is it allowed at all? Or what about allowing people to upvote their posts but not their comments?

its an interesting idea. I think long term that it could provide some benefit. I think upvoted your post should be allowed. Or maybe you can only upvote yourself once a day? That could work also.

I like that limited self upvoting idea. I wouldn't want to completely get rid of it. It's also nice to be able to occasionally move your comment up the list for more exposure. Otherwise if you comment late, even if it's a great comment nobody reads it.

very true

It's an interesting topic to think about!

@ecoinstant I sent you a message in steemit.chat for further explaination.

I think the ability to self-upvote seems really odd too. Why would that even be considered? I guess it people would simply game that by creating fake accounts and upvoting themselves in a roundabout way.

I think the solution is to only allow people to upvote any account 2x a day including their own. There may be a way to circumvent this but it would have to be very elaborate to work.

This would prevent some of the high frequency posters from getting a disproportionate share of the reward pool. You can't put out "quality" 4+ times a day. Even if they are well written they will lack quality of thought and ideas.

This also means a more even spread of rewards. Whales would be forced to find more quality posters instead of relying on 2 or 3 high frequency posters.

Self - upvoting posts at least should not be allowed. But thats what hard forks are for.

I love Bellyrub too I have been using fairly often !
Minnowbooster a classic =D
Thanks for the website for curation though, great initiative !
I don't upvote my comment but only my post (worth 0.03$ anyway lol)
Thanks for this great post !

thanks man.

Thank for alternative way.

your welcome!

Thanks for sharing a very useful information

I think you have it backwards. Self voting on comments is actually useful to rise above the morass. But 'for obvious reasons' self voting on your posts is breaking the system ;p

Why do you think its better to vote on posts than comments? A post is 100%, I can often give my self a 1% upvote on a comment and rise above 70% of them.

I am guilty of self upvote to but I use minnowbooster and bellyrub bank to I’m going to try advanced curation now I usually just upvote everything in my feed at a low % but now I’ll try this advanced curation

This post has received a 5.10 % upvote from @buildawhale thanks to: @edolo. Send at least 0.50 SBD to @buildawhale with a post link in the memo field for a portion of the next vote.
