Today in the 20th Century: The State of Israel is Founded - May 14, 1948
On this day, on May 14, 1948, in Tel Aviv, the Jewish Agency Chairman David Ben-Gurion declares the establishment of the State of Israel, thus founding the first Jewish state in 2,000 years. "Israel Reborn" is a newsreel film by the United Palestine Appeal that depicts the events that led up to the establishment of the state of Israel.

I recently attended an event here in St. Petersburg celebrating the creation of the Israeli State. Many of my friends here hold dual citizenship, but it often creates some conflicting emotions regarding the Russia and Israel. Good stuff.
