Ricordo ancora perfettamente come tutto iniziava. In un attimo, passavamo da un disegno di una barca in mezzo al mare a cantare e suonare "'o' mare nero" di Battisti al pianoforte. Era questa la maniera di costruire i ricordi nella mia famiglia.
Ma ancora prima dei miei ricordi d'infanzia, nella nostra storia ci sono stati diversi casi di studi che analizzavano la possibilie relazione tra suono e colore. Prima di arrivare al già nominato Kandinsky nel post precedente, vorrei iniziare ad introdurre l'argomento parlando di alcuni dei suoi precedessori.

Uno dei primi a sperimentare la relazione tra suoni e colori fu l'eccentrico ritrattista Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Alla fine del XVI, il pittore elabora un singolare sistema grafico per tradurre in colori i suoni. In questo modo i colori chiari venivano associati ai suoni gravi e i suoni acuti con i colori scuri. A questo, è impossibile non citare il "liuto prospettico", il curioso strumento musicale da lui inventato.
Per fortuna, quello di Arcimboldo non fu l'unico caso isolato. Appartiene a Padre Louis Bertrand Castel, filosofo e matematico francese del XVII secolo, il "Clavicembalo Oculare". Con questo strumento il suo intento era quello di trasformare la musica in colori, non esclusivamente per creare una nuova forma d'arte, ma anche per permettere alle persone non udenti di vedere una determinata melodia. Questo strumento fu citato dal famoso scrittore tedesco Goethe nel saggio "La teoria dei colori" datato 1810.
Nel corso della storia molti scienziati, musicisti, pittori e scrittori analizzarano come rendere sempre più efficace questo dualismo di arte e musica.
Nel prossimo post verrà affrontato come, nel 1900, queste teorie di arte e musica saranno prese in considerazione da artisti e compositori.
