RE: Matera: the city of stones

Beautiful city indeed. I think most cities in Italy are. I can't get enough from these sorts of places. I am impressed at how people, so many years ago, fought against the elements, with rudimentary technology (compaired with today's resources) and were able to bild these amazing cities in places where most of us would have discarded building.
Then, the preservation of these places is just admirable. I live in a 500 year-old city and there is nothing ffrom 1515 standing, there are a few things from the 1700s, and only a few well preserved houses from the 19th century.
We have never seen history as a priority and the houses themselves as an important part of that history.
I admire any people who gives their history and culture their true value.

You're absolutely right! All the value of these cities is linked to the story behind and the culture of the place. Italy is full of very old and interesting cities to visit, so do not miss the opportunity to visit my beautiful country and you will be fascinated by 😃 but I am sure your country will have its beauties to see!

It does, although now is not the best time to explore it. It's not safe even for locals, let alone foreign tourists.
Unlike most countries in the world, we did not invest in touristic infrastructure, we did not educate our people for the hospitality business. There is a long way to go in that area, as well as public transportation and other services that would make the experience more confortable or pleasant.
