Posting like I'm on LiveJournal, it's 2002, and I'm 23.

And anyone gave a shit was I was thinking. I definitely had a LiveJournal. In fact, it's definitely still there. I thought about re-posting some of the posts as they turn 16 and I continue to get older but not necessarily more mature.

Here's my LJ-style post:

All I've ever wanted in life is to not have a job. I know how bad and lazy that sounds. You must be thinking... who is this millennial asshole?

Well, I'm not a millennial. An article I read somewhat recently suggested that I may in fact be an xennial. When I searched for that term just now using Presearch, I discovered that an alternate term for this generation, which is used to describe people born in the late 1970s and early 1980s, is The Oregon Trail generation. I prefer that latter term, as I definitely played that game on Apple computers with single-color monitors in school. Green dots on a black screen. Probably better for one's eyes than what came afterward, but that's neither here nor there.

Remember when this "new" version of The Oregon Trail came out? I do.

When I was in my late teens and early 20s, my pipe dream was playing in a touring band and either paying my bills that way, or just not having bills because I'd just be on tour all the time. Touring literally all the time, of course, is more difficult than it sounds. Add in the fact that, despite my goal of financial independence by-way-of playing music, I never really played the kind of music that the masses would appreciate or want to spend money on. Carving out my own little niche market was actually the goal, I suppose, and suffice it to say it did not technically work.

Some of the best years of my life were spent touring in that band, but it did not pay the bills. Truly, it just created them.

Lately, like many of you, I've been wondering if Steem is going to end up being a failed pipe dream. Without giving away too much information (you could figure it out if you really wanted to) I have a network of multiple accounts on this network, an app I've been building to help me manage them, and an infrastructure to generate what will hopefully be a decent amount of passive income. One step closer to the only real goal I ever had, right?

Now that Steem's price is getting uncomfortably close to 0, Steemit, Inc. announces that they've had to fire 70% of their staff and that the website is janky or whatever. Bummers all around, for sure.

Should I be worried? Yeah, probably. It's always good to be cautious, anyway. I'm still hopeful, though. There are still a lot of people very passionate about Steemit, and if the company has failed to be what the community needed it to be, maybe the community doesn't need the company.

I'm going to keep posting, keep upvoting, and keep the faith. And buy Steem Monsters. And Smoke. And Steem Power. Now that I've got the infrastructure in place, I need to focus more on bringing my previous failed pipe dream into the newer one. What's that? Creating more music, and posting it on the Steem blockchain. I've been practicing my Ableton Push skills lately, getting my home office / studio in place, and planting seeds.

I'm already in an active band (@deadisdead) but I'll be working on some stuff on my own in a variety of genres to share in a variety of ways.

Carving out my own little niche market is essentially what I'm doing with my Steem activities too, I suppose. Most people in my life, despite my efforts, either do not care or do not know what Steem is or why they should care. If it works out for me, they'll all ask why I didn't tell them about it sooner. Just wait. :)
