Recap - Kerala witnessed the worst floods of the century in 2018. The people of Kerala got to know the real after effects of climate change, the side effects of dumping waste in rivers and the fury of nature and her backlash.

People had not yer fully recovered and were just settling down when this year, same time, same date, rains are lashing, cyclonic storms blowing, trees falling and entire villages swept under landslides. It is with horror we watched people being reported as missing in landslides. Rivers are flowing above the level and into the lands and dam shutters are now open.

Railways and air travel are affected leaving passengers stranded.

Thousands have already been shifted to relief camps.

In our place, about thirty trees have uprooted and fallen and power was disrupted and was restored only a few hours before. The rain is non stop and the eerie cold is very unhealthy.

I do hope climate and weather specialists pitch in and try to find out why this state is suffering these type of natural calamities when once it was known for calm and serene climate and beautiful nature, known for its backwaters and greenery.

Is it because of too much deforestation?
Is it because of pollution?
Is it because of looting the nature?

If this goes on, people would think of going away to settle in other lands. The once beautiful state of Kerala has been looted enough and it is time to think hard of building human communities without interfering with nature.

All of those questions you asked are certainly causing problems. I'm not sure that pollution would affect climate as much as it's the cause of increased disease in the world. Deforestation is probably the most direct way of altering a climate. Just look at aerial photos of the borders between places like Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Or North and South Korea. One side has no trees left and the other side is lush. When the Roman armies invaded Africa, they made the Sahara desert much larger by cutting down all of the trees to build their camps at night. There is also direct evidence that planting trees can shrink desert zones.

The condition is severe in Idukki it seems. My grandma's house has been destroyed in the heavy rain. Hope it will come to an end soon.

Omg, hope your family members are safe. Praying for all. I hope the rains stop soon.
