The tongue goes dry
the head nods
a jerk awakens from sleep
that had crawled into the eyes
roaring sounds of water
incessant rains
nature and her plans for revenge
had kept everyone awake
man had invited wrath
built resorts along the hills
nature tried to claim it back
through landslides and flood
man and man joined hands
enmities forgotten
race, color, and creed
were a thing of the past
heads had become one
to save the lives at stake
the unity worked
the love brought about a miracle
the rivers calmed
waters did not spill
nature is God
do not invoke her wrath
life would come to a standstill
if she is looted again and again
Time to rethink and set right the priorities. A huge crisis was averted in the state of Kerala, India. Shutters of 22 dams were opened after a heavy downpour.
People had built houses, resorts, and shops along the path of the river and claimed what was nature's right. Incessant rains increased the water level in the dams which threatened to spill. The authorities were forced to open the shutters of the dams. The water rushed forth and what were a bus and taxi stand disappeared under the water. The waters rushed forth claiming whatever came in its path. It threatened to claim the towns before spilling into the sea but the forces including army, police, and kseb worked together and averted a calamity. People were evacuated trees were cut and paths cleared so that the waters did not enter nearby fields or lands (including ours).
The prayers of friends and relatives and well-wishers helped the people of Kerala to survive the ordeal.
