Guide Hong Kong: Kowloon

in #kowloon6 years ago

Kowloon is the largest city in Hong Kong's special administrative zone. For almost all tourists - and also for the inhabitants - Kowllon is primarily a shopping paradise. And rightly so: In addition to all the world's well-known luxury brands, you will also find many bargains here, especially in the areas of computers, cameras and electronics.

The most important points at a glance

Legend has it that the name Kowloon comes from the last emperor of the Song Dynasty. He is said to have said when he arrived: I see eight dragons and I mean the eight mountains of Hong Kong. One of his companions replied out of reverence or even only out of subservience that he saw nine dragons and raised his emperor into the dragon stand, thus giving Kowloon his name. Visit Kowloon Coming by ferry from Hong Kong Island and following the gangway you reach Salisbury Road. Right next to the Star Ferry Terminal are the three interconnected shopping centers Ocean Terminal Center, Ocean Center and Harbour City. Countless shops have found their home here, mostly boutiques, some electronics stores, but also some shops with traditional Chinese medicine and herbs. After a stroll along Canton Road, we recommend a visit to Nathan Road, where pure luxury can be found. Kowloon Park and Wong Tai Sin Temple You can take a quiet break in nearby Kowloon Park. You should also visit the Wong Tai Sin Temple, one of the most important and most visited temples in Hong Kong. Its architecture is traditional Chinese. If you like, you can be told the future by one of the many fortune tellers on site.

Political development

Even though the iron lady was not quite as tough as many people wanted her to negotiate the return of Hong Kong to China, Hong Kong (translated: smelling port) has hardly changed for the outsider in recent years. It is still a haven of capitalism par excellence. Politically, the government in Beijing is trying to exert more and more influence on Hong Kong's fortunes. Tourists can enjoy their shopping pleasure in Kowloon. No matter if it's pure luxury or cheap bargains - everybody can be happy here - as long as they have the necessary change. But you should not forget the good restaurants and tea houses before shopping. A visit is worthwhile.
