‘5월의 신부’라는 말이 있지요. 계절의 여왕으로 불리는 5월에는 가지각색 꽃들과 그 향기, 따뜻한 기온, 강이나 하천에 뛰노는 물고기 등 생명력이 넘치는 달이지요. (언제부턴가 우리나라의 요즘에는 미세먼지와 꽃가루로 조금 불편하기도 합니다.)

이 계절에는 평생의 배우자를 맞이하는 ‘결혼식’이 많이 열립니다. 과거에 결혼식장에서는 어디서든지 ‘딴따다다 따다다다~~~“하는 웨딩마치가 일색이었죠.

그러나 지금은 오히려 이 음악은 잘 들리지 않습니다. 친구들의 축하공연이라든가, 신랑·신부의 취향에 따라 연주되는 음악이 다양해지고 있습니다.

클래식FM에서 결혼식 음악에 대한 선호도를 조사했는데요, 영국의 조사이다보니 정서적으로 달라서 그런지 우리에게 친숙한 곡도 있고 아닌 것도 있어 보입니다.

결혼식을 앞둔 예비 신랑·신부, 또는 멋진 예식을 구상하고 있는 미래의 신랑·신부들이 참고해 보면 어떨까요.

1위는 찰스 마리 위도어(Charles-Marie Widor)의 오르간 교향곡 5번 가운데 ’토카타‘가 차지했습니다. 140여 년 전에 작곡된 이 곡은 지난 2011년 영국의 윌리엄 왕자와 케이트 미들턴의 결혼식에서도 연주되었습니다.
