First Post - Learn Kpop names

in #kr7 years ago

Hey Kpop fans!

I know Kpop is awesome, but sometimes it isn't so awesome pronouncing the names of your favorite Kpop artists. First off, the English spellings of certain names can make it difficult to confidently say the name of the artist you want to talk about. Let's say you are a BTS (방탄소년단) fan (great music btw), and you want to tell your friends how awesome Jungkook is. Jungkook. The spelling makes it seem like you pronounce it "Jung Kook": Jung as in "hung" with a "j" and "Kook" as in "juke" with a "k." However, this is the incorrect pronunciation. The correct way to say it is "Jung Gook," the same "jung" but "gook" as in "juke" with a "g." The Korean spelling is "정국," where "국" = "gook" (the ㄱ symbol is equivalent to the letter "g").

There is nothing wrong it having an incorrect pronunciation in a language with which you are unfamiliar. Heck, I can't say a single word in Chinese, Swahili, etc. But I do realize some fans are eager to learn the correct Korean pronunciation of their favorite Kpop stars' names. That is why I started making these simple videos to help those Kpop enthusiasts. And that is why I am posting on Steemit to see if people would like to learn why names are pronounced the way they are, kinda like simple lessons on the Korean language.

I am thrilled to join the Steemit community and hope to have fun interactions with all of you. Thank you all for reading!
