Sunday's Sunset At Lake Tahoe (and a bit of "how-to")

Here is the other "keeper" photo from Sunday's sunset photo shoot. When my friend Tony and I decided to shoot the sunset earlier in the day, we knew there were no clouds in the sky and it was unlikely to get an explosive colorful show. However, we could also see that there was a little bit of haze down low at the sky's horizon and we knew that sometimes that haze can go orange or yellow at sunset. We were both feeling like even if we didn't get any great photos that evening, we both wanted to get outside and go for a hike so we went for it.

Lucky us!!! The haze down low did get very colorful and we both ended up with some pretty cool photos. This was my favorite shot from the sunset. The making of this image can be seen on my latest DTube video HERE.

The photo was shot on a Canon 5DS R and a 16-35mm lens set at 16mm. A tripod and shutter release cable were used as well as two graduated neutral density filters and a polarizing filter. The ISO was 50 and the aperture was as small as possible at f22. This all led to a shutter speed of 95 seconds long which is why the water looks so smooth. The polarizing filter also helped cut through the glare on the surface of the water in order to see the boulders and aqua colors below. The two graduated neutral density filters darkened the sky quite a bit which helped get a more well-lit foreground and water scene.

Sidenote: I had a great conversation this morning with @elsiekjay! It was a fun one-on-one style interview where she asked me some questions about my photography career and about my steemit experiences. Please consider giving her a follow and look for that interview soon!

Thank you for looking, watching, and reading!

Thank you @rickbn!!! I truly appreciate it. Cheers!

Awesome photos! Your photos especially this one looked unreal! A very vivid photo that looks photoshopped but I can only imgaine its not! I love your 'What the heck!' Expression on your thumbnail!

Thank you and thank you for the resteem! It definitely gets the usual photoshop treatment to bring up shadow detail and give it a little "pop" but really, those graduated neutral density filters and the polarizing filter are what give it that cool look. Haha! yeah, that was a pretty funny thumbnail but I liked the dramatic light. Cheers!!!

You did it again brother!

Haha! Thank you @mikeycolon!!! It's hard to go wrong at the big lake :)

That's a pretty awesome photo. 95 seconds is a really long exposure but obviously it worked well.

Right!? I love those long exposures.

Thank you for your contribution to the Photocircle tag!
