Observation and Expectation 观注和期望

We must observe what we expect to happen in our nation. It is more so if we hope the democratic government will do a good job in delivering their promises. It is important for us to entrust the elected leaders with power to carry out their roles and responsibilities. Equally important is that the citizens are able to observe and feedback as and when necessary.

Among the many people, the reporters and NGO participants have the key role in reflecting the needs of the people to the authorities. To do their job well they may require courage and in-depth insights.

First, they should not bound to the saying, “As long as you quietly do your work...” Implicitly, it is a warning to them that they should not create problems. Certainly, no one should gossip about the private issues of others, if such issues have not involved any public interest. However, corruption is usually a problem that any tolerance can easily incur a loss to the general public. Therefore, such an issue should be objectively reported and pursued for the good of the society.

Secondly, in-depth insights are vital if the reporters and NGO participants hope to serve as a relevant voice for their society. It means that there should be people who are able to analyse and critique the unhealthy policies to be implemented. Supposedly, if the authority were to grant gambling permits in order to boost up the economy is indeed an unhealthy policy. Apparently, the authority may also subsidise generously to the vuluntary organisations to deal with the people and families affected by gambling. The people having in-depth insights are able to discern the real issue. It is an issue similar to a gluttony who insists overeating and depending on medicine, rather than disciplining oneself and changing one’s eating habit.

Therefore, we must observe what we expect to happen in our nation. And those who act as the conscience of the society must have the courage as well as in-depth insights to objectively serve as a voice towards the authorities and for the general public.

我们必须观注我们対国家的期望。如果我们期望民选政府能够很好地履行承诺，我们就要责无旁贷地观注我们的政府和社会。事实上，我们要委托当选的執政者好好地执行他们的任务。同时，作为公民的我们也要按需要给予各项政策適当回应。

在人群中，记者和非政府组织参与者在反映人民的需求方面具有关键性的作用。然而，他们需要很大的勇气和深入的见解才能做好这方面的工作。

首先，他们不应该被这样的说法所束缚：“只要你安静地做你的工作......” 这种话意味着警告，即是要他们不要制造问题。当然，任何人都不应该対没有涉及公共利益的私人问题道长说短。但是腐败通常会影响大衆，任何宽容都可能导致多人的损失。所以，这方面的问题应该得到客观的报道和处理。

其次，如果记者和非政府组织参与者期望作为社会课题的代言人，他们就需要对有关问题具有深入的见解。这意味着能够作出分析和適切的评论。假定政府要批发多个赌博执照来刺激经济，这显然不是一项健康的政策。
雖然政府当局也愿意慷慨资助一些自愿团体以協助受赌博影响的人仕和家庭。面对不健全的政策，具有深入见解的人能够辨别真正的问题。其实，这是一个类似暴食者的问题，他坚持依靠药物而暴饮暴食，却不愿意自我约束和改变自己的饮食习惯。

因此，我们必须观注我们対国家的期望。那些充当社会良知的人，必须有勇气和深入的洞察力，客观地向執政当局和为广大群众发声。
