RE: Think Long Term with Steem

Good post. As a low level contributor, your points about not focusing on steem as a source of revenue are well taken. Though, this does ignore much of human psychology where seeing those who are best at gaming the system seeing success while a large portion of posts receiving pennies is a hard pill for many to swallow.

The main issue I would raise is that, while your point of not focusing on the ups and downs is positive, these concerns are not on the readers / bloggers nearly as much as these are concerns for the site owners.

Yes, they want to revolutionize the blogosphere with a novel concept of incorporating blockchain payments for input. That is a great start that has proven to intice numbers of interested people.

When people come in and See just how few articles even break 1 cent, and some of these are clearly posts that were crafted over hours, that has an impact. Some might push through, many will drop off the map or just start aiming for curation points.

It is not up to the users who have little to no say in the operation of the platform to plan 5-10 years into the future of the platform. That is clearly on the owners who should be aiming for the creation of a fair system, that is difficult or impossible to game, that will attract users to interact with the platform, other users, and ultimately to create a community.

Personally, when I write a post, I'm writing it to be read. Not just by users but anyone who might find what I have to say interesting and or informative.

When I go to browse posts; I scroll down the 15 minutes and start scrolling up. When an article catches my eye as interesting, I open a new tab and give a thumbs up, and keep scrolling to find those that seem to be most profitable for curation regardless of interest, once at the top, I will read and possibly comment on what is written and repeat as much as my SP will allow.

Does this make me part of the problem? Probably. However, this is the pattern that is, whether intentional or not, what the platform promotes by its design.
