Unpopular Opinion: What If Money Can't Buy Happiness

As banal as it sounds, "money can't buy happiness", this statement remains inaccurate unless we're able to decipher how we spend our money. In actuality, when we reason generally about spending some portion of our money, our thinking's are usually linked to material stuff such as; a new dress, a pair of shoes, a new car, a new sound system, or the latest smartphone, the list goes on.

Well, we aren't the cause, as humans our brains are knotty and as such, we're easily attracted to new things in our surroundings and environment as time goes on. The new dress we bought will get faded or worn out as time goes by, the new car will become old-fashioned, even the new phones we bought will become boring over time. Since our brains are hard-wired we tend to seek instant pleasure and satisfaction when we purchase these things.

As cliche has it says “money can’t buy happiness,” We feel happy when we buy the things we want.

Some core traits why there's a feel-good record in your body when you buy new things

As human beings, our brains are hardwired in a way that we solicit instant pleasure from the things we like. When I rant about instant pleasure, am referring to the things we want, the time we want it, and the way we want it - that alone is instant pleasure or gratification. It's more like a survival apparatus.

One of the reasons why instant gratification is on our plate is mainly because we live in a society where delayed gratification is always on the card. As such, we get extremely excited when we eventually get a piece of this pleasure - because it's usually delayed.

In summary, in an attempt to experience true and pure happiness, we need to start doing the things we love regardless, set out quality time with friends, lover, or family. The life expectancy for males is 76.4 years: for females, it's 81.2 years. So you see, we don't have forever.
