Why Video Games Are Better Than Movies

From the past few years, it feels like gaming has reached some remarkably new heights. If you compare the games of the '90s and the current generation, you will see just how far we have come in terms of developing and experiencing gaming as a legitimate source of entertainment.

Same goes for movies too. We have had some of our favourite and most iconic movies come out in the past decade or so, and it's truly an awesome experience to see how technology unfolds all the new uniqueness and rich stories that we all crave for.

But when talking about entertainment in general, I feel like we often fail to appreciate gaming as a form of art, especially since most of us would rather prefer to go watch a movie with a group of friends than to play a multiplayer game with those same people.

Eventually, we grow up and out of that phase where we see gaming as a hobby as responsibilities become our first priority and investing in gaming doesn't really sound that good of a deal to most people. But for the gamers among us, we know exactly what separates games from movies.

Interactivity

Watching a movie sure is fun, but if you think about it, there's not really much going on. All that you're doing is sitting and watching. There's no real involvement, no matter how compelling the story may be.

Video games on the other hand, require your constant attention. You are literally controlling the character and are supposed to make decisions based of your activity and the result that you aim to achieve.

You are constantly studying the environment that you are in, along with all the other characters including you allies and your rivals, in order to compete and develop your standing among the crowd.

Not just that, with the newest VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) tech, the future of gaming will progress like crazy. Players will get to dive into a whole different world of creative imagination and will get to create their own too - something which movies could never do.

Creating Your Own World

Look at this way: When you're in a game that allows you to create things on your own, using inspiration from real life, you are quite literally the creator of your own doings, just like in real life!

Not only do you get to create your own world, but you also get to experience thousands of other worlds created by millions of other like-minded, creative, and imaginative people worldwide.

But in movies, there's none of that. I mean, yeah, you can watch some excellent stories, but you can never create your own. You can never build your own fantasies; you only get to live others'.

Actions & Consequences

Every action that you take in a game, small or big, leads to a bigger picture. In order to achieve a desired goal, you are constantly required to solve problems that are thrown at you, which with time and practice, develops your problem-solving abilities.

Video games remind us, in a more effective way, how our actions always have consequences and how our choices and our decisions are what makes or breaks our future and the dreams that we hope to see inside of it.

The one big thing that separates games from movies is how movies almost always have happy endings, while games let you be the driver of your own destiny. The fate of your character is in your hands and somehow, with time as you play the game, you slowly begin to develop that bond with your character even though it's just a collection of virtual figures and codes!
