Surviving the great outdoors just became easier!

Sometimes we find more uses than one from a single item, a great example of that is Condy’s crystals.
Condys crystals, also known as permanganate of potash crystals is something you can purchase over the counter at most pharmacies or general agricultural dealers, on the farm it is mostly used as a wound disinfectant for animals and humans alike, It is also a great and cost effective way to deal with any skin related ailments. Potassium permanganate can even be used to treat diarrhea in sick animals, and these are to name just a few of its uses.

But an interesting fact about Cody's crystals is that it is a great survival item to have, in fact and especially if you are an outdoors type person, this is almost a must have item for your first aid/survival kit.

When you are out and about in nature or you are on the road a lot having Condy's crystals close by will help you purify water if the need arises; If you do not have access to pure water, you can add two to three crystals to water, the water will turn a pinkish color. Let it stand for thirty minutes and you will have safe drinking water. Where possible it is always advisable to filter and boil water, but where it is not possible to do so, Condy’s crystals will help you do the trick.

These amazing crystals also serves as a General Antiseptic that can be used to disinfect wounds, all you would need to do is mix some crystals into water to make a strong solution (a dark purple color) and use this to clean the wound with. It might not aid in the healing time of the wound, but it will keep the wound clean and free of infection until you manage to get proper medical help. (Worst case scenario and there is no water some crystals can be sprinkled directly on the wound)

But wait... There's More....

Condys crystals can also be used to start a fire, because you know that you never know when you might need to make an unexpected fire. Using these crystals is actually quite easier than finding flint stones, or tirelessly rubbing two sticks together. In order to make a fire using Condy's is throw a decent amount of the crystals out on a flattened surface, then dribble some glycerin over the crystals, and if glycerin is not something you have at hand you can substitute it for some antifreeze or break-fluid from the car. Then all you need to do is wait for the crystals to slowly light up, and then of course feeding the fire with grass and small twigs (or whatever medium you have available) as it grows.

I think the uses for Condy's crystals are endlessly diverse, but just in case you are still not sold on the idea, here are a few other ways that you can use these crystals:

Condys Crystals can be used as a foot soak, to treat fungal infections while serving as a disinfectant, while bathing in Condy's crystals will also leave your skin looking tanned, and can be used as a quick self-tan solution, mixing Condy's crystals into some plain base cream (like aquas cream) serves the same purpose when applied to the skin that you want to temporarily bronze up.

Talk about multiple uses for one product - all I know is that I am never leaving home without it again :D

I have no idea where to source Potassium Permanganate here in the US. Sounds useful stuff though.

Thanks!
