The Best Way to Stick to your New Years Resolution for 2018

It always starts off along the lines of "This year is different, I'm gonna start doing X and stop my bad habits Y" and if usually ends in the resolutions being short lived and by the end of the year nothing really changed and this cycle continues to repeat itself.

With that said, this is the one thing to better improve our commitment to our New Years resolution.

ONE. List down all the goals you might have.

Health, wealth and relationships are the 3 most common categories. These goals can be anything, from running a marathon to hitting a certain business target or improving your social skills etc.

Be sincere, and leave it up to your stream of consciousness.

TWO. Identify the 10 most life changing goals that you hope to achieve in 2018 and the sacrifices you have to make to achieve them.

If one of your goals requires no sacrifice, you might want to re-evaluate whether it's a valid goal at all.

For example, if you want to run a marathon, you'll have to sacrifice extra sleeping time and your cozy mornings in bed. If your goal is to eat healthier, you need to sacrifice the extra time and consideration that must be put into your meals.

THREE. Pick out the top 3 resolutions that you're willing to sacrifice for and tackle them one by one.

The mistake people usually make when committing to their resolutions is that they commit to ones that they're not willing to sacrifice for. When you're in a highly emotional state it's easy to picture yourself getting things done. Willpower will never beat a habitual action. This applies to your resolutions. Instead of forcing yourself to be in a certain situation, reengineer your environment to make that situation easier so that it will eventually develop into a habit. Many people fail, when they realize they've committed to an unrealistic goal that they're not willing to sacrifice for.

You can only be consistent if you're willing to let go of something else; time, money, comfort, unhealthy habits and relationships.
