Organ Donor - Gratitude #51

Many years ago I thought about becoming an organ donor. But I didn’t do anything about it because, honestly, I was too lazy to find out how to go about it. Back then access to the internet wasn’t like it is today. It was too much of a hassle!

I’d forgotten all about it until last Thursday when my sister and I took our dad to the hospital for a check up. What are the chances that outside the clinic right below the doctor’s name was a little poster promoting organ-donating!

I took five forms from the doctor and got @siren87, @branlee87, @reconstitution, and Jack to pledge. Of course I did too 😊

I found the form incomplete. They asked for the name of our next of kin but not their contact number. So how are they going to contact them? 🙄 We wrote their contact numbers beside their names. 😊

On submitting the forms at the clinic I took another stack of forms. That afternoon I went to buy some cake supplies and asked the manager if she’d consider being a donor. I was surprised to learn that she too had considered being a donor but didn’t know how to go about it. She took two forms from me 😊✌🏻

Then I asked sister #6 if she wanted to be a donor. She took five forms from me and the next day she returned all the forms filled and signed by her whole family! I hope those below 18 years of age are allegeable.

We submitted the forms on Thursday and got six more forms! I think this must be the most submissions the doctor has ever received in one week! I think I should be their official promoter 😂

The sad thing about organ donating in Malaysia is it’s not being promoted. My dad’s doctor has been trying to get the hospital to promote organ-donating but hasn’t been successful. A manager at the hospital, of a different department didn’t know where I could get the forms. She even seemed surprised at my enquiry.

I found out from someone that a relative of hers was a donor but when he died his organs were not harvested because they didn’t think to check if he was a donor.

My family who have pledged their organs and I are worried that this might happen to us. I’m trying to figure out a way to declare my pledge in a very visible way. Please share any ideas you have 🙏🏻❤️
