Autumn Trip up North

in #life6 years ago

Hi Everyone 😺

Last weekend we went up north for some fishing, photography and hiking. The colours were just starting but that wasn't the focus of the trip, just wanted to restock the freezer with some fish before the winter. We caught more than enough, If you don't believe me, send over 1 SP and I'll take a picture of the fillets to share in a comment below! Nothing was worth taking a photo of compared to the scenery just a bunch of 1.5-3lb bass. The fall is a beautiful time to head up to Temagami, the lake is empty and so serene.

The forest was just perfect, absolutely no bugs and we were the only people within miles. Unfortunately, the cat stayed home for the weekend, she's a city cat and doesn't particularly enjoy hikes. We did miss her though and she was thrilled to see us return.

Up here half the trees are coniferous and some are old growth. They tower over the deciduous trees and some of the trunks are as thick as an oak; the area gets a lot of rain and some of the trees have never been logged. Temagami is a protected lake at the top of the watershed, there is no industry, only a few hundred people live on it, it has thousands of miles of shoreline and you can only build on islands; the place is very unique, some of the water flows into the Arctic ocean and some of it flows into the Atlantic.

Back at the shore (this is becoming a random photography blog.) The next photo is of the spot where we caught most of our fish, off of a large cliff. This time of the year we fish with worms at about 25 feet give or take. Always fish at the bottom and avoid using plastic, it's bad for the lake and generally not as effective if you want a decent chance of catching a Walleye. Anyone who thinks fishing is luck doesn't know what they are talking about, it's all about weather, timing, and skill. We caught dozens of fish each on the first day and not so much the second day. The first day was raining and the air pressure had been relatively stable for a few days.

The dark water makes it difficult for the fish to see the boat, choppiness and rain help dampen the noise. Because of the colder weather (about 10 Celcius) we were fishing on a large semi-enclosed pontoon boat. Can't wait to go back for some ice fishing in February or next summer!

It looks very peaceful up there. Seems like you had some good fishing and fall is in full effect.
