Would You Pass A Drugs Test Or A Breathalyzer Test?

This topic I find quite interesting and try and keep my posts light hearted and different. You will notice I find things to write about that are relevant and have happened to others in the past.

A stupid hot cross bun will put you over the limit. Sounds stupid I know, but one hot cross bun was tested and from a reading of 0.000 put the two people who shared it to over 0.021. You would most likely need a couple of hot cross buns to fail, but it still made the reading move of 0.000. How you may ask and it has something to do with the yeast turning into alcohol during the digestion phase in our bodies. This sounds so dumb , but it is true. One motorist was arrested in Australia for drinking under the influence of hot cross buns and this is how this came about as public knowledge. It apparently takes around 6-10 minutes to make the reading go back to 0.000 afterwards.

A carbonated tea drink called Kombucha showed a reading of 0.035 after one sip.This is an alcoholic free drink and a glass would make you fail the test comfortably. Some businesses do this as standard for health and safety in the work place. Other foods that will alter a breathalyzer are the Durain fruit which is known as the smelliest fruit in the world. Obviously if you have a blood test none of these results will show any alcohol in the blood as it is only in the breath.

Poppy seeds is slightly different though and imagine having two bagels or two poppy seed rolls for lunch. This happened to a woman in America who gave birth to a healthy daughter and tested positive for opiates or morphine as it is more commonly known The poppy seed comes from the Opium Poppy and can have traces of opium. This lady was retained for 5 days until it could be proved. She had a poppy bagel for breakfast the morning she gave birth and her blood samples came back as positive for a serious drug offence and was separated from her new born daughter.

A case study was done in 1987 when they took 5 workers from a biscuit factory. The biscuits had a poppy seed filling and even though they only had one or two biscuits each they all failed the drugs test. This is different to a breathalyzer as this is done with a urine test so it is in your body. Everyone is different and no one can tell how many poppy seeds it takes to show up on the readings.

A 58 year old man failed a random drug test at work and was suspended for 11 weeks whilst their was an inquiry. He was cleared eventually and swears blind he has never had any drugs in his life. He did have poppy seed roll the day before the test though. The company he was contracted to work for refuses to have him back on his test result. This stuff is quite serious and knowing about this is very important.

These are just some stupid facts that it is good to be aware of and there are many more foods that have a similar impact on the body. Quinine which is used in Tonic water can mirror the results of drug users. Quinine is used sometimes to cut cocaine. I have no idea what this means and it is one water I do like.

I think it is important that we are aware of these facts because if we are innocent we may have to prove our innocence. I hope no one has to, but it is interesting to know what has happened to others.
