letting go of control

in #life5 years ago (edited)

here is a lesson i learned about letting go of control i had to live the experience twice because i didnt learn it the first time. my wife and i had built a house in the worst possible time 2008. once i was done with it the housing market had taken a giant dump and work had dried up everywhere in the housing industry. we had enough money in the bank to live for 1 year and we were better off than most at that time but then 6 months had rolled by and the market and jobs had gotten worse i could see that we would have to sell our house just to survive. so we put it up for sale and every week i would watch our money slowly decrease and me being in control and being the worry wart with our money lived miserable. my wife would say dont worry we are living our lives right we have nothing to worry about but i couldnt see the positive. i watched our money dwindle for the remainder of the year until we made our last payment and last bit of our money on the loan and told my wife i guess we will have to just forclose on the house and lose it which would suck because i had a ton of equity in the house. once i let go of the worry and let go of the control and left myself vulnerable boom the house sold and we closed on it with 1 week to spare. welcome to the roller coaster life i live when we got the money the housing market was still dead and there wasnt any work so i did what i had to do and that was build us another house thinking that when we finish maybe the housing market would turn around and work would start picking up again. guess what we went through the same thing again watch our money dwindle for 1.5 years worrying and being miserable and thinking im in control and exact same thing happened when i handed my last penny to the bank for 1 more month of living in our house the thing sold again. now i look back at all that wasted energy and wonder how much more could i have accomplished if i didnt waste all that time trying to control an outcome i had no control over. since that second time going through that experience ive let go and quit worrying about money and live a very giving life and know that we are taken care of. funny thing is once i let go of control ive noticed that the money was always there and everything always worked out
