What is the Rorschach test?

The Rorschach test is an instrument created by the psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Hermann Rorschach, which allows a psychic and psychological analysis of people through the observation of plates with abstract images and the subsequent analysis of the responses of the person examined.
The test consists of 10 sheets with images, which are actually inkblots, characterized by being very ambiguous and lacking a definite shape, that is, they are totally abstract, but presenting symmetry. The test consists of showing the images to the person being evaluated and asking them to say what they see in them, or to identify what is observed; and from the answers offered by the individual, the examiner can create a hypothesis about the perspective and psychological functioning of the person being examined. The images to present an indefinite form, allow space to be interpreted in a large number of ways, which will depend on various factors, such as the personality of the person, the experiences that has lived, their traumas or phobias, among others, and this is precisely what seeks to evaluate the test.
The Rorschach test or also called ink spot analysis, was first published in 1921, under the name "Psychodiagnostik", and it was not until the 1930s and 1940s, when its use in Europe and the United States became widespread. One of the factors that prompted the dissemination of the test, and that allowed today to be known or at least seen by a large number of people, was the influence that the cinema had on it, since it was used, captured and interpreted in different ways in a large number of film productions, thus allowing its globalization and dissemination worldwide, which also transcended through generations.
Today almost 100 years after its creation, the test has received different criticisms from the community of psychologists, has undergone changes both in the models used, and in the criteria used for the analysis of the answers, but despite the everything, is still used with great validity, evaluating the psyche and characteristics of people.
