Breath is the link between body and mind

We are always in a rush. We eat quickly, we sleep less, we don't enjoy the simple joys of life cause we are thinking too much and we basically live to plan the next day, the next week or even the next month... We don't even breathe correctly, which is an automatic process. We have managed to change and shorten even the rhythm of our breath!
Breathing is vital. It is not only a form of nutrition, it is the major form of nutrition for our bodies. Just as we chew our food, we should do the same with the air that fills our lungs and keeps us in life. We should hold the air in there a bit longer than we do.. And this is so easy since breathing is free and effortless. Generally it doesn’t require any type of equipment and can be done anywhere as long as oxygen is present.
Deep breathing benefits both physical and mental health. It alleviates stress, improves confidence, and helps create better blood circulation. Yoga and meditation for example that help to improve self-control, and may lead to an immense amount of awareness, focus on breath control, which is the source of a vital life force.
Haven't you noticed that when you want to lift weight or do a demanding physical exercise a deep breath helps you do it more easily? Or when you feel stressful, don't you unconsciously take a deep breath in order to relax a bit?
"Through breathing you can also draw into yourself substances, forces and particles from the world above, such things as light, peace and an abundance of life-giving elements. When you breathe, therefore, you should seek to draw into yourself the spiritual elements which you most need at the time.” Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov
Try to take more deep breaths and focus on them a bit more during the day. "Chew" the air you inhale and get the best out of it... Conscious breathing is a spiritually uplifting procedure that we should not neglect...
Great reminder! I always forget to slow down and focus on things like this.
You mentioned remembering to chew in the post.. I'm a self-admittedly, notoriously fast eater. I commented to @caitycat one day last year, when I was conciously trying to eat slower, something along the lines of "wow... It's amazing how much you can taste when you slow down and let the food touch your tongue".
I was only half-joking.
Breathing is definitely similar. When I first started getting moderately serious about climbing, or running, or practicing yoga, I would find myself holding my breath by accident -- effectively starving my muscles and limit myself to way below my potential.
Since paying a bit of attention to my breath, I've found that not only is my mood better, but my performance in all of the above was greatly improved (over time).
I guess giving a bit more attention and focusing on everything we do (even chewing our food properly or breathing deeply), may transform our lives in a way..
I have also done that -holding my breath while climbing- unconsciously and it doesn't help AT ALL.. My coach kept reminding me to BREATHE! It's ridiculous.. By breathing correctly, our body can do more than we think.. :)
The Egyptians pointed the Ankh to the nostril
I haven't heard of the Ankh before and I read about it... So interesting! Thanks a lot for this new information! :)
