This is a question of self examination. This is a question of one's true self. The world can be very dangerous because people can be very evil. But, as Albert Einstein maintained,

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

Every man is a door to influence and the key that opens it is his character. Like books, characters either lift one up or cast one down. It either edify one or crucify one. In what way do you influence people around you? When we read about successful people like Ben Carson, Bill Gates, etc; we often get motivated and inspired to do more to improve ourselves--that's influence.
As salt influences food, and everyone enjoys, so should our character be to others.

The interesting aspect of being a source of positive influence to others is not just that you help people to reach their potentials, you also fulfil your own purposes. A successful man motivates others to be successful. A salt is perceived in a food because it's known to be a salt--a useful indispensable compound. All is summed up to the High Road Principle taught by John C Maxwell:

When we help others, we help ourselves

So when next you're visiting the bookstore of Life, pick up a good book. Avoid negative people and things. Remember, we become what we stay close to. Never mingle with snails, soar with eagles! Read and study good people! Let them motivate and inspire you to reach your own potentials. Take care not to be a marionette. Choose wise mentors. Become a better person.

Who knows, maybe, when somebody--a mediocre--visit the bookstore of Life, he would pick up your book to grow?
