Vlog 251: Vice industry + Forking the blockchain vs SMT's.
Vice industry wanted to utilize an SMT on the STEEM blockchain for their project here
Later they changed their mind and decided to fork the blockchain instead and create their own blockchain but they would compensate steempower holders with an airdrop of VIT tokens.
This airdrop has been canceled last week. here
“Today we announce that we will no longer be supporting any airdrop to Steem holders. VIT will instead reward only direct participants of the VIT crowdsale."
I guess first they didn't want to wait for SMT's and then later regretted the airdrop thing as well.
Which is ok, I wish them all the best with their project anyway.
I do think they have a lot of work in store for themselves now. They will have to run their own blockchain, get servers, witnesses and all that.
But they are a big industry so I'm sure they can manage.
For smaller industries or communities, an SMT would be so much easier to implement.
You will get all the benefits this blockchain has to offer without investing in all that backend stuff.
O and if you don' t know yet, we have our own little adult project being developed on the blockchain.
It's called dporn.

What a shame they decided to fork. I was really looking forward to having a porn SMT as it's such a huge market. I don't get it why they want to fork and do all the extra work that goes with it.

We did do something for Vice - we all contributed to the steem blockchain in one way or another (ok, maybe we didn't do much).

@exlye thanks for the mention at the end of your video. We are excited to be the only porn related company on the SteemIt blockchain currently and plan on growing with the platform and with all the steemains here. We are a community born website and idea and we'll always remain this way. It would have been great to have some competition in this space from VIT ,but clearly they saw a different direction.I see you stopped into the discord looking forward to having a chat!

I am certain this cancelation was a big mistake for them and their company.
Thank god we have Dporn, i must say progress is really nice and we have many models who post daily to it. Still some bugs but they are being fixed very quickly. I think this is revolution of porn industry and i am glad to be so early part of it. Make sure to hop in our discord channel we have awesome community :)

I don't just know what is wrong with VICE. Say one thing today and come up with something else the next day. How am I even gonna take them serious? (I don't care if they're a big industry).
Tommorow they gon come out and say the project has been suspended totally.

I totally agree, I was initially really optimistic about their project. I was a bit turned off by their CEO after seeing his interview on supomans channel, the guy just doesn't strike me as a smart businessman or a leader.
They say one thing to get the support of the Steemit community and then change course and don't use SMT and cancel the airdrop. I was whitelisted but the whitelist sale was such a shitshow I decided not to invest
One thing that makes me happy when I get to read these kind of news is that in one way or the other our steem blockhanin is being used which is very good for the platform.
The more projects we have built on the top of the steem blockchain the better it is.

They are literally NOT USING the Steem blockchain at all.

The fact that they forked the steem blockchain over SMTS says a lot.
Exyle spelled it out for you. Rather than use an SMT (which is a non existence atm) they chose to go through all what Exyle described...
Sure they are a Big Company, and to be honest, I wondered why they didn't do what they did back when they announced they were interested in SMTs.
There was clearly an issue. Either between the two entities (Steemit Inc + Vice) or they could not reach agreement under representation. Or, they did not see SMTs as a solution.
Either because of the delay in their existence or in the way that they would be implemented.
There is much more to this.. and there is much more to SMTs. I've had this hunch for a while and have come across certain things that hint towards some underlying issue(s). It just doesn't make sense that they would take so long. I don't think that the team is incompetent. I DO think that they know how badly steem needs their existence. It only leaves one wondering why... why are they so delayed.
