Possibly The Most Stupid BTC-Related Article I've Ever Read...

in #life5 years ago (edited)

I happened across this gem last night, although it was originally published a few days ago. Beautiful title, right? I mean, can someone please tell me why Bitcoin keeps on getting hacked? Might be a bit of a problem finding the answer to that there question, as the truth of the matter is... BITCOIN NEVER HAS BEEN!!!

But no, the idiocy continues. The author then goes on to explains to us why Bitcoin and other such crypto currencies are so susceptible to all those ominous recurring hacker attacks. Remember, this is all in context with the title of the article and the recently stolen BTC from Binance. She then goes on to cite examples of Mt. Gox and BitFinex. Those were the damn exchanges that got hacked, NOT the blockchains themselves. But the wording of the article indicates the latter being the case.

The article the goes into an overly long explanation about how "insecure" your crypto funds are. In other words, once they're gone, they are lost forever. That we already know. However, later on, she decided to enlighten us all with possible options for storing our crypto in more suitable and secure places. And get this. One such solution is storing your precious funds on, I quote, "exchanges and digital wallets run by third parties". And that's with the main context of the post being about the Binance hack! What the ****?

But no, it gets better still. For a closer, we get a quick footnote where she corrects a certain factual mistake that was made earlier. Again, I quote...

Correction: A previous version of this story stated that bitcoin owners were not able to track their currency once stolen. They can trace it, but they cannot get it back.

Speechless. Utterly speechless. No understanding whatsoever of the workings of blockchains or crypto currencies. And we wonder why people get swayed into thinking this technology is something to be avoid like the plague. That's a huge problem. I believe education is key for global adoption to ever take place and drivel like this only spread inaccurate "BS FUD" and simply propagates a false bad image of this space. Hopefully, one day in the near future, we will look back at archaic crap like this and laugh at how the world "used" to be, pre-crypto...

Womp womp. It's painful to read uninformed drivel like this. We saw the same thing when the internet was in its infancy, and even today with that one senator who asked Zuckerberg "How does Facebook make money?"

Some will stay ignorant but the overall trend is towards better understand and more education, I think.

I think understanding should evolve organically. Until then, articles like this will continue to make the rounds. :)

Blockchain is still so mythical to many, but it’s just for a while.

It's a disaster, right? :)

Yes, it's mislead the people like me who just begin the journey in crypto.
