If you are new to using Essential Oils and herbs there are several things to remember. Often it is easy to see what those of us that have had a lifestyle of using herbs and oils for many years are doing but please remember that we did not start here. Each of us that are showing wisdom, also work with our own doctors when we start new things. Not everyone can use every oil. These oils can be strong and they can also react in ways that will not work for you. Nothing can replace knowledge and wisdom. One example is licorice root. This is an excellent oil, but it raises blood pressure, so I can not use it. 

I have a medicinal herb garden and distill many of my oils and hydrosols, as well as freeze and dry fresh herbs. I have spent years learning my herbs and add new ones every growing year. There is so much to learn, that you will never learn all there is to know, but several hours of diligent study a week will help you to stay on top of the main ones. Most herbalists take at least one workshop and sometimes more each year. 

If you are new to using an oil, dilute the oil according to the directions for that oil. Then try that oil alone to make sure you do not have a reaction to it. Essential oils are very strong. Never start a new oil without discussing it with your personal doctor. He or she knows your medical history and can best assist you. Also never cut back on your prescriptions without your doctor's okay. 

The same is true of fresh herbs. Never start using large quantities of a new herb without consulting your doctor. Every herb and oil has possible side-effects. With the proper diligence, they are excellent to use, and are a great aid to staying off prescriptions drugs. The herbs of the field were given to us by our Creator for our healing.
