Neelan Valley, Azad Kashmir
A river flows down from Gurez Valley in Indian Jammu and Kashmir and passes through this very beautiful Valley in the Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. The river was named after village Neelum which before partition was known as river Kishan Ganga. It flows all the way to join the river Jhelum in Muzaffarabad which also is the capital of the Kashmir territory.
Neelum valley is famous for being thickly wooded and the mountain peaks which reach a height of astonishing 5200 meters.
Neelum Valley has a population of almost 200 thousands and is about 144 kilometers long. The district is surrounded by Muzzafarbad on south west, Kaghan Valley in the north west, Diamer, Astore and Skardu districts on North east and at north by Kupwara and Bandipora districts of Indian Kashmir. The famous line of control goes through this valley.
The district which was a part of Muzzafarabad untill 2005, generally relies on agriculture and handicrafts. It was ranked 33 out of 148 in Pakistan in terms of education and 136th in terms of infrastructure and facilities back in 2015. In education, it has gone down to 58th with a score of 60.87.
This valley contributes a lot in terms of tourism which is increasing by each passing day and deserves more attention in terms of infrastructure and other public facilities. Mostly spoken language in the district is Hindko which resembles Hindko of the neighboring Kaghan valley but is mainly known as Pahari of Murree hills.
Valley is surely a gift from the ALMIGHTY for us people and deserves a lot more than what we are giving it in return.
