It's a kick!

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Taking my oldest kid to school today, I brought a "kick" with me. A kick looks like this:

I had my son sitting in the seat for the first part of the ride, and ended up with six schoolbags on it when meeting up with my son's schoolmates. This mean of transportation is called a "spark" in Norwegian, meaning kick, because you need to kick with your foot to move forward (unless it's downhill).
We live on top of a big hill so we went pretty fast and it was lot of fun!
A lot of kids bring their kicks to school, here's an image from this morning; the kicks are parked by the bike racks in the school yard.

It is also possible to push several kicks at once:

That can be challenging going downhill:

The kicks have been in regular use in Scandinavia since the beginning of 1900. Here are some historical images with photo credit: http://dokumenteneforteller.tumblr.com/page/28

I'm so happy we have a lot of snow and cold weather, so there will be many opportunities to use the spark/kick this winter!

Amazing photos Thanks for sharing

Thank you for your comment @slimanepro! Definitely a great way to start the day. Look forward to repeating it tomorrow! :)

It looks like you've done very well the last couple weeks. Hopefully you can keep it up and not have to work on stuff you are not interested in.

That would definitely be great! :)

That's pretty interesting story. Cant wait to read more. Keep up the good work.

wohuu! lovely place and beautiful pictures.. But most crazy thins I have found in your pictures and post is the crazy name
"Spark" ie Kick .. @helnmunch Ha Ha Ha Ha I mean I love it because the name is so amazing thing that everybody will love to carry your bag or goods by just kicking that kick. Lots of fun there, I can see that. Lovely family and a beautiful naughty son.. #stay blessed and Happy buddy!

Thanks for your nice comment! The name is definitely funny in several ways, and so is the "Spark". It makes it so much more fun to bring the kid to school, and to help other kids along the way with their bags is a bonus. Stay happy yourself! :)

I was just trying to talk my wife into buying one for our son for christmas and I'll use this post to convince her to get a Kick of our own!

It's so much fun! Can you get them were you live? They are available in different sizes. We have one men's size and one junior size for the kids. If you live in Winter Wonderland it's definitely worth getting one! :) Helen

Looks like fun to me. Most likely a lot of people would enjoy having a a kick with all of the snow we have been getting. Have fun.

I believe so! And the great thing with a kick is that it's very durable so it can last from generation to generation. :) Thanks, have fun yourself! :)

We used to pass the sleds on to the next generation. The older ones were always preferable. 🐓🐓

Vintage is always a treasure!
