I am an introvert

in #life6 years ago

Most of my life, I thought I was an extrovert because I like to talk to people. I work with people every day, and love it, but when all goes quiet, truth be told, I want to be alone, at least for a while.

Aloneness to me is not loneliness. It is freedom from expectations, questions, and the uncertainty of life lived inside a mind that is perfectly and terribly equipped to entertain itself.

Having a young family and working full-time means lots of demands on my time. I cringe whenever I catch myself wishing my kids would leave me alone, or when I wish time spent doing chores could be spent some other way.

I cannot change the way I am wired, but I am hoping to find ways to make downtime profitable and useful.

I am not lazy, but the thought of living "the hustle," as some people call it, makes me want to reach for a paper bag. Whether I would hyperventilate or vomit into it, I am not sure, but I am sick of: I work full-time! Go to the gym! Volunteer! Travel! Chew gum while riding a unicycle, juggling fire, giving a speech and writing a novel at the same time!

If you live this way, you have my respect and admiration, but it's not for me. Does this mean I, and others like me, can never be successful?

I’m the same . Being alone for me is great! I think that’s why so many introverts are gamers . I’ve a small kid and I love her nap time so I have some quiet time. Sounds bad but that’s the way I am.
